In this video I tested my Bluetti D050S charging enhancer to see how many watts we could get from multiple DC power sources. What did you think of the results? Are you able to get the full 500 watts using solar panels with your D050S? I only got 350 watts.... since it didn't work with my three 180 watt solar panels in series! BUMMER! I have purchased 3 panels that I think will work with this, update video coming soon!

I found a simple trick that allows three SP200 in series to be connected without triggering the overvoltage fault. It simply requires that you connect everything before deploying the panels (or keeping them covered) so that there is never open circuit voltage.

Hello Jason, I do not understand what you are trying to achieve by trying to match the input voltage of the D050S. If you’re matching the input voltage of 60 Volts why would you need the D050S? As the max output from the D050S 16-58.8 VDC and 8.2 amps. What is being gained? As I see it the advantage of the D050S would be for lower voltage panels outputting 21 volts and then boosting the voltage to 58.8 volts with the D050S. FYI, I am a Newbie when it comes to this stuff. I must be missing something. Thanks for you hard work with this stuff

@@twocommastv I haven't ever let my units run down to 0% with a USB load. Did you update the firmware? I recently bricked my EcoFlow River Pro when I tired pulling too much power from the DC output. Their customer support was excellent. I used both the support option in the app, and called them on the phone and they were able to get my replacement out pretty quick. If it keeps happening, maybe you should get a 12v to USB plug and use the DC output instead?

Excellent video. Thanks! This summer, I purchased the AC200MAX, a B230 battery pack, and a D050S. I also have 4 PV200 solar panels. They all worked on arrival :) I've run two PV200s on the D050s and on a near-perfect solar day, I was up to 360watts, which is okay. I ordered a second set of 30 ft 10gauge expansion cables for a 2+2 set solar panel setup. Seeing how one can use the D050S to independently charge the B230, It might be a neat experiment to see if charging the B230 through the AC200MAX is faster or slower than charging both separately.

My understanding is there is also a current limit of 10 amps at all voltages so getting the voltage about 55 would probably produce the most power. Also I noticed your battery % was 94. Sometimes chargers can ramp down charging watts as battery approaches full. Would be interesting to to try adjusting the angle of panels and charging when battery is like 40% thanks! I got the dc charge enhancer in the early days when it was cheaper. I have 800 watts for my ac200p normal solar so just now working on getting a second array for the charger enhancer. I use it to run a space heater and/window ac year round during the day so an extra 45o watts would go along way
@Jasonoid

Its not the angle of the panels or the weather conditions, its a limitation of the charging enhancers design. They over advertise the output because it's almost impossible to get the full 500 watts. With the 60voc cutoff and the 8 amp input limit, they basically handicap the output for only two 12v panels in series since most 12v panels have a VOC 23 to 24 volts. I have some Newpowa 180w panels I just purchased with 19v voc so I can actually put 3 of those in series (rare to find panels like that). I'll be demoing that I'm a video later.

Finally. It’s great see the addition. Basically all of the higher end all in one units lack any serious solar input. With an AIO that has UPS capability that means you can bring in enough solar to bypass the battery and charge your EV, run your AC, etc! However for what this is it’s too expensive. The quality also looks incredibly low.

Hey Alix, it's best not to connect 'mismatched' solar panels together as they won't perform as well as 'matched' panels. The voltage is usually different and the panels will try to match up and you'll see less power.

Thank you for the video presentation. I bought this adapter several months ago for a Bluetti AC200max. At first, I didn't see the 60V maximum capacity written on the unit. So I was scratching my head when I connected 4 100W BougeRV panels in series and was wondering why no wattage was appearing on the AC200max input display (duh on me). However, when I disconnected one of the panels and just connected 3 of the 100W panels in series, voila...I observed an input wattage of 250-260W (mid day, clear conditions). The open circuit voltage (Voc) written on the back of the BougeRV 100W rigid solar panel is 21.43 +/- 3% volts. So the voltage from 3 of these panels just BARELY works with this adapter. (At least it did for me). Also, I bought the D050S adapter several months ago when it was ~$159. I guess due to a variety of factors, Bluetti has raised the price :( If you're considering buying one of these adapters, wait for a holiday or a Bluetti sale to see if the price comes down. Finally, when I bought my adapter, I used a coupon from a KZbin channel called Hobotech (not to take away this KZbinr's channel). If you sign up for Professor Hobotech's email, he sends out a periodic (no endless spam) email with the various units he has reviewed and coupons he and the various manufacturers have worked out. When I bought this adapter, I used one of his coupons under the Bluetti section of his email and it provided me with ~$40 discount :) That discount might still be available so it could be worth considering.

I have 1000W of solar connected to my D050S (over panel) in a 2 x 2 arrangement. The OCV is around 65VDC but the unit seems ok with this and will turn on, once under load the voltage drops to around 50-55VDC and during the peak of the day I get around 480W (seems to be the max) into my ACMAX200 no problem. I have two B230 and received a free second D050S with one of the B230. I have seen video showing you can connect to the B230 via a 3rd and 4th solar array via the ports on the B230. I have not yet tried this but will in the future.

First off thank you for all the great informative vids - **Question: in this vid when you had your smaller array in S/P configuration to drop volage, your amperage would have been increased - but D050s states max 10A - would that not blow the fuse inside the enhancer ? Have you ever run one or two Bluetti PV200 panels through the enhancer to see results ? Thanks again !!

Great question! A power supply only pulls the power it needs. Even if there are 100 amps available, it will still pull up to the limit of 10 amps. Think of it like your phone charger at home, you plug it into an outlet, does it blow up your phone since theres like 2400 watts available? Nah, it just pulls the power it needs to charger.

Great video, thanks. Let me know that I can migrate my D050S from my 200P to a future 200Max. But, I don't see why you think you're not getting what's advertised. It lists at 500w max, but also 10A and 60V max. The only way you're going to get 500w with a 10am limitation is if you have a 50v+ source. Can't do it with only two series panels (34V-ish) nor 3, since you're above the Vmax of 60. The problem is not Bluettis (though I admit it's a disappointment and was for me too) but it was my own lack of thinking through the limitations that led to said disappointment, not the D050S not working as advertised. I'd say it's working better than advertised, given that it didn't fry when you over voltaged it. Fwiw, I'm working on a small power resistor that will eat a couple watts, but load the circuit enough that it never reaches full Voc and can allow 3S panels input. In the meantime, I'm using a pair of NewPowa 240W (26.5V and 10.5) panels in series. They're about ideal for the D050s. Thanks again for the Vid. Cheers.

Great video. Looking at your video, @12V input and output @ around 54V you get about 100W so the input current to the D050S is around 8A, when you try 24V input you also get around 54V output and about 200W of power so the input current is also around 8A, and when you use the panels you can also calculate the input current to be around 8 ~ 9A, that seems to be the input current limit, basically you cannot get 500W of power at 12V since the input current will be over 40A, or at 24V or anything below 50V. I need to get the spec sheet of this unit to see if it will show the graph of input Voltage VS output power and what the input current limit is, most boost converter will have input current spec. So to get 500W output the input Voltage will have to be over 50V since input current seems to be limited to around 8 ~ 9A. I just look the user manual, it shows 10A max input current, that is too bad. My EB70 has limited input current of 8A. So what you are seeing is correct, at 12V 10A, the input power is 120W, the output power will be less as you can see due to conversion loss, to get 500W of power from panels, you need to get the input Voltage up higher than 50V but less than 60V max.
@Jasonoid

In a perfect world you'd be able to get panels with around 52-53v at peak power and 8 amps (but not go over 60v open curcuit), giving you close to the 500 watt output. However, almost all 12v panels have higher than 20VOC. I just bought 3 210w panels that have 19.8VOC so I think they will work with this in a 3S configuration. Fingers crossed, I will be doing an update video soon!

Looks like 60 volts is the max voltage before the unit shuts off the output. I know the current limit is 10 amps, but does it also shut off if the current is over 10 amps, or does it just limit to 10 amps? I just use mine with 1 PV350 (which is all i can afford!). If it just limits but doesn't shut off the output, then QCells make a 480 watt panel with a Voc of 54V and max current of 10.6 amps that would get you close. Too bad they didn't just stick the 900 watt MPPT controller from the AC200MAX into a separate box and sell that instead! Great review! You test stuff that most of the other guys don't!

The charging enhancer adds to the total of the solar panel input. Once you max out the AC200max charge controller with panels, if you want more solar panel charging pick up the charging enhancer and more panels. I'd start with 1 PV350 on the charging enhancer if that's the route you want to go.

Perhaps a different question, I have the AC200, the original offering. I would like to add the expansion battery but to charge both the 230 and the AC200 with my current solar, ~640watts, with 80-90 volts. I would NOT be able to use this enhancer? My AC200 is ok to use for my OGC but when using (lights, DC fridge, occasional TV) it does go down to ~40% capacity. A good sunny day get me back up to 100% but it would be good to have some additional battery. Thoughts on the enhancer for this?

Those panels probably have a peak power voltage of around 43 to 45 volts (it will say on the back of the panel). Yes, you can 'overpanel' the power station. That means you can have a higher wattage solar array of 1500 watts on a power station. This will allow you to get the full charging speed more often. You cannot use the charging enhancer to charge third party batteries. Probably a high end Buck converter to boost input voltage to the maximum charging voltage of your Bluetti. This only works if you have plenty of Amperage coming from a 12/24v source. It doesn't show the wattage on the main screen You can see / estimate the in two ways: 1) You can plug the charger into the main unit first and see the power, and then plug it into the extra battery and it will charge at the same speed. 2) you can use a voltmeter and clamp meter to measure the power going through the wires to see the power. If you use inline "MC4 parallel adapters" those give you an access point near the charger to measure theses numbers without disconnecting the wires.

You should test other power station brands with this. As long as you have the right DC jack connector/adapter you could easily use this with any other brand (that accepts that voltage range) and I haven't seen anybody in any videos nor Bluettis documentation state this. Obviously you can't have some proprietary electricity, once it comes out of the connector you could adapt it to plug into anything basically. As far as I can tell it's a dumb connection on the end and it doesn't require a handshake or anything to connect, it's just basically a Bluetti brand boost converter. I would be interested to see a teardown of the unit as well to see what was inside of it. I wonder if it's just a relabeled Victron or something inside. (and for that price, I'd hope so!)

The charging enhancer isn't needed if you want to charge from your alternator / 12v vehicle charging system. Youd need to connect the power station straight up to your battery terminals with a dedicated wire (with a fuse on the positive line) or just plug it into your 12v cig socket. @@Jasonoid Step down the voltage into the D050S since you can't go over 60v into it. say your array is 108 to 120vdc. a step down would produce more amps and hold the max output to 60v. then you could get max out of the D050s. But I cant find a step down for these numbers I need yet :X

Will this work for the AC180 as well? I think the limit on DC charging with the AC 180 is 500 W total, 10 A and 60VOC
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 4 ай бұрын
The AC180 has a whole different ac charging design and is not compatible with the charging enhancer. You just plug solar panels directly into the solar port on the AC180.

I also get an overvoltage error message when hooking up 3 BougeRV 180W panels to my AC200P. I purchased the Enhancer on sale a few months back for $129.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid Жыл бұрын
You are seeing that error when using the charging enhancer right? Those panels should work fine in series on the AC200p charge controller by itself when you have the setting set to PV input, just not when using the charging enhancer.

@@Jasonoid Sorry, that is when trying to charge my EB150. It is supposed to be able to take 16 - 68V and 3 of the 180W panels have a VOC of 64.8. On a 95 degree day, I am sure they output less than that.

@@robertlueke3238 yeah, those panels should be working on the EB150, but I don't have one to actually test the limits on.

Why didn’t you just use one big panel, like a 450W or 500W or even 550W panel? They are all under 60V Voc.

I didn't have big panels back when this video was created, I do now though :)

Your unit is not broken, it states the voltage/amp spec right on the unit. 12-60v/10A max. This is the limitation of the battery size. The DC enhancer is just a buck/boost controller. To run a 3S panel setup the panels VOC would have to be 20v max each. I am running a 2S2P with 4 100w panels. The max wattage I have gotten is around 320 watts with clear sky's with average days at 275 - 305W. I am on the lookout for a 250w panel with less than 30V VOC to run at 2S.

I had to question myself because I had a viewer mention in another video he was getting 550 watts on his charging enhancer using 6 100 watt panels in a 3S2P configuration. After questioning him he never could give me the details of his setup so I think he was just trolling me. I have recently found some larger 12v panels with a VOC rating under 20v. I purchased them and I will be testing them once they arrive. I'll provide another update video then.

@@Jasonoid Sweet, looking forward to the video! That 550w guy was deff trolling you. There is a programmable dc boost Mppt controller (limited to 12-50v) you can get for $40 on eBay that should work the same as the Bluetti DC enhancer. I have one that I use to charge my 40v Ryobi batterys with solar panels. Edit: this wouldnt work because it's limited to 50v max. Sorry about that

@@grindychum yep this is a cheap MPPT boost and its the 7201? I think? Or you could just get one of those 1200W, 1500W, or 1800W boost converters that are 20-25 bucks on Amazon. Get the 1800W version because its Chinese watts and those are half of rest of the world watts

Uhh... if I understood what you said, this unit only allows you to add more panels, right? It's not "giving" you 500 watts, you're paying for more panels & running them through this box. It's not doing anything with your existing panels to squeeze more watts out, right? Please explain this again, especially if I got it wrong.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid Жыл бұрын
This device allows you to plug in more solar panels than you normally can. Think of it like a "portable charge controller" for Bluetti. Instead of just 900 watts max, you can now get 500 watts in addition. Without this you'd have to charge will wall power or a generator to get that extra wattage.
