Respectfully, the AC adapter (120 Vac to ~50 to ~60 Vdc converter) that comes with the Bluetti AC200Max (T500 500W Adapter for AC charging) is intended to be plugged directly into the AC input port and, I believe, it does not have any "charge control" circuitry. That tells me that charge control is built into the Bluetti AC200Max (as well as the b230). That would further suggest that the charge enhancer is just a simple DC to DC voltage boost converter and that you could simply connect your DC power supply (voltage limited to 58.8 volt and current limited to 8 Amp) directly to the AC input port.

Hi Jeff, Thank you for this video.. I recently purchased a 200MAX (still waiting for it to arrive) and I am currently working on how to install my charging system for it in my G3500 Project, aka Toy Hauler. It so happens that I have a 2nd alternator that I'm not currently using. Someone was kind enough to recommend that I use a Step up Converter in the PV port and maybe the Enhancer with a couple of panels on my rig to the 8MM port. Your video was helpful. Tony

Thank you for this video & the info on the charging enhancer. I recently bought the AC300 & just one B300 for my van that's in process. @@sharimctiver8952 Thanks for the feedback, from what I have gathered there is a solution. From your truck batteries connect a DC DC converter to raise the voltage to 48 then feed that into the D050S which is limited to 10A but at 48v that still provides over 400 watts... Plug this into the B300 "power in" port so that can simultaneously use shore or solar power .. what do you think?

If the input is actually "direct to the battery" then it would be far cheaper to use a 3rd party MPPT controller. 500 watt mppt controller for $200 is crazy, and it doesn't actually appear to be MPPT but rather a simple DC boost converter.

Great video. After looking at your graph I'm unsure of what to expect out of a 480 watt 53 volt 10.70 amp Qcell panel? If I go purely on voltage, and amperage input, I'm thinking 475 watts, but if going by the input wattage it's more like 436 watts. I'm doing research right now on my best option locally to add 3 panels to the 3 charge enhancers I bought for my ac200 max and 2 b230 batteries.

I'm new to solar and while I've been reading a lot about it, this is the 1st video I've seen where the purpose and applicability of this charge enhancer are clearly demonstrated and emphasized. I had an inkling of its function prior to this video but NOW I UNDERSTAND! Only one thing you said (if I have this right) that confused me -- as I understand it, the B230 battery HAS a MPPT charging circuit so it CAN accept solar directly -- does not require the enhancer. I don't have that battery so there may be only one input for solar in which case you have direct input from solar panels OR from the charge enhancer but you can't have both at the same time (in contrast to what is possible w/ the AC200 versions). Of course, if the B230 can accept directly solar panel input the ONLY good reason to use the charge enhancer is if you have a non-solar DC input since the charge enhancer (as you point out) is a CHARGER and not just a DC input souorce.

Excellent video! I enjoyed the detailed information. Question, could you get your DC Charging enhancer to start charging with above 60 volts input or was that starting at a lower voltage below 60v and then ramping it up? In the past when testing my unit with solar panels slightly over 60VOC, the charger would not 'start up'. I had to find panels that were lower than 60v VOC to start the charging process.

I have read elsewhere that a little work around to that is to have the solar panels covered before plugging them in. Then uncover them so as not to hit the max open circuit voltage. Not ideal but I've read it works. Haven't tried it myself though.

Thank you Geoff, excellent video, thank you!! This is what I was looking for everywhere but couldn't find. I am interested in the RV use of the charging enhancer, but would love to extend its use beyond 100W, which is approximately what a cigarette lighter will offer in output. On the Bluetti website they show a picture wit the charging enhancer directly hooked up to a lead acid battery. From your graphs I take it the enhancer wouldn't allow for much more than 100W output at 12 Volts anyway. Did I understand this correctly? Do you have an idea how I could get more like 400W of charging power out of my alternator/starter battery? Thank you!

Hi! first of all thank for your video! It is difficult to figure out somebody with technological knowledge speaking about bluetti hahaha Second I have in mind a weird set up, let me explain. My user case scenario: I go with bluetti to camping during weekend, I have already a lifepo 12v 200Ah battery 500W solar panel with Vopen +-40V. If I connect the battery to the DC/solar input I only get 100W of charge and I miss the chance to use solar panels. So.... what if I connect the battery in series with the panels and add a switch system to disconnect the battery when the voltage drops? I would get around 52V increasing the charge rate .

Hello, is the external Bluetti solar enhancer you demonstrated working like an external MPPT controller? I sure like your graph plotting. Tells the story. I wonder if the external Bluetti enhancer will enter a pre-programed cut off if the external enhancer receives over 70 volts? I sure hope the engineers designed that into its software or installed a mechanical internal fuse be it serviceable or not. I sure like how you only pushed your input voltage to 70 volts. I as well would not have gone any higher, but Bluetti should have designed a software cut off to self-preserve its unit. Thank you for the information.
@WaveformScience
@WaveformScience Жыл бұрын
It is an external MPPT controller with the output stage connected to a LiFePO4 battery charger. They also made the charging circuits play nice with Bluetti's built-in MPPT controllers so that the adapter can feed both the AC input and the MPPT input on their devices. I'm not sure if it cuts off above 70 volts. I didn't want to blow it up since the max published acceptable voltage is 60 volts. It's too expensive of a device for me to fry one. The newer devices all cut off right at the published specs, so my guess is they left themselves some thermal "wiggle room" by slightly underrating the specs on this device. That said, I highly recommend to stay within the manufacturers published voltage input range.

I have a 200Max, 1 B230, and 1 T500. Main charging is 800 Watts of solar into the Max. I have considered the charging enhancers to add a bit more solar but the voltage and current limits make getting max output a challenge. It is not, or at least not a very good MPPT. If the barrel input is a direct connection to the battery I wonder if a standard solar charge controller, Victron or whatever, could be used?
@matthewr3986
@matthewr3986 Жыл бұрын
The problem isn't that the charging enhancer isn't a "good" MPPT controller. It cannot safely output more than 60 volts and 9 amps to the input of the MAX or batteries. They have a working voltage of 58.8volts at about 8.5 amps. It is this input which does not allow a higher voltage and or amperage that hinders what is useable.
@zanedzikonski4234
@zanedzikonski4234 Жыл бұрын
I believe it’s the internal components of max/ac 200p that limit current and voltage. Some of this is good because “fast charging” can reduce batteries life time. I just designed a separate solar array to work within the parameters( voltage/amps) of dc charging enhancer and it works great. Good luck
@amieres
@amieres Жыл бұрын
The barrel input in the AC 200 is not a direct connection to the battery. Only after it senses a voltage in the correct range will it open the connection to the battery. Most standalone mppt chargers will also need to sense a battery voltage before they start working. Furthermore a Victron will not start charging a battery until the solar panels produce at least 4 Volts more than the battery, which means you need at least 58V in your panels before they start charging. By contrast, the D050s can start with just 12 Volts.

I understand you can use the D050S to add non-Bluetti external battery capacity to an AC200MAX or similar. So I could add a ~5kWh 48-51.2V Power Queen LiFePO4 battery or similar. But, could I charge that external battery with T500 AC adapter? It appears to be a 58.8V/8A charger, suitable for LiFePO4 charging, as such is in the AC200MAX. Or maybe I should just buy a dedicated charger for the external battery, capable of maybe 18A instead of only 8.

It is a battery charger, yes. I have no idea if it can handle charging other batteries. The Power Queen products are not raw battery cells. They have a BMS as is required by all multi-cell lithium iron phosphate battery arrays. I’m not sure if the charging requirements of that BMS. I do think a faster charger is probably a good idea for an external battery array.

So, could you use the AC200MAX to get 900W, then use a DC Charge enhancer to the main Unit to get another 500, then use another DC Charge Enhancer to a B230 to get another 500W from another panel, then another DC Charge Enhancer to the other B230 for another 500W of solar to get a total of 1400 for the main unit, and another 500, plus 500 for each B230 for a total of 2400W of solar? Newbie to all things solar here... Have an AC200Max, one B230, one PV200 panel, one PV350 panel, and one D050S enhancer. What would be the best configuration you would recommend to maximize the solar charging power to the AC200Max/B230 unit? Would it be best to: A) plug the PV350 into the AC200Max and then use the D050S to connect the PV200 to the B230, or B) to plug the PV200 into the AC200Max and use the D050S to connect the PV350 to the B230? Or would it be six of one, half dozen of the other? Or would it be unworkable to use both panels at the same time because of the different wattages? Should I disconnect the AC200Max from the B230, charge them separately using one panel for each, and then reconnect them after charging is complete? Thank you!

I have two B230 expansion batteries. Are you saying, I can hook up three DO50S and get 900W to my 200Max and 300W to each B230??? I only have 3 x 200W Rich Solar panels. Could I add 600W by the B230s and 900W to the 200Max?

Q: Will this device make the BLUETTI AC200 MAX charge faster with say, a 220 watt solar "blanket"?? My BLUETTI AC200 MAX uses an Off Grid TREK 220 watt solar blanket when I'm car camping to both run my smallDC cooler and charge my two (2) 14 Ah Li-ion e-mountain bike batteries at the end of the day. BUT I may want to add another 300 watt solar blanket for faster re-charging and the BLUETTI DC charging enhancer. Also great for charing a BLUETTI B300 add-on battery.

You are saying that if you connect a DC power supply to the AC adapter input (not using the DC Enhancer), it will NOT work. Have you tried setting the DC power supply output voltage to 58.8 volts (or about 54 volts) and connecting it to the AC adapter input (not using the DC Enhancer) to confirm what you are claiming or are you just assuming that it will not work? Thanks

Have you tried connecting a 48V battery (e.g, EG4-LL) to the AC200MAX AC adapter input instead of using the DC charging Enhancer? The adapter input voltage is rated at 58.8 volts, which is close to the server battery voltage like EG4-LL. Thanks

I have tried it and it does charge but very slowly. The speed of charge depends on the voltage difference between the internal and external battery. As the charges equalize the charging speed slows down.

Hi, if I install my AC300/B300 into my camper build how would I interface the D050S it to the 150A truck alternator for charging while on the go? Would I connect to something like a Victron Orion DC-DC charger? is there a better way to do that instead? thanks for any help

The AC500 B300s batteries come with a cable to simply plug a solar panel directly into the battery. I does have to match the input spec of 60 Voc so I don't know if the D050S takes care of any overvoltage problems, but I don't see the logic of spending money on it instead of solar panels you can use directly with the batteries.

18:41 I charge my AC200Max from my ecoflow river pro through the 12 volt DC socket into the solar charge port with a straight wire connection and I charge from the included AC brick at the same time. Is that a problem? Meaning is it dangerous?

I can plug on AC200MAX at the SAME TIME : D050S and Adapter T500 correct ? This mean if I have AC200MAX and B230 I could plug for each D050Sx2 and Adapter T500x2 (total 4 adapters ) is this correct ?

I just watched a poor fella who overheated the cigarette lighter cable supplied with this unit. According to you chart and ohms law the current you draw through that cable should be about 10A, so I suspect there is a defect with the cable itself. Still, since that enhancer pretty much behaves like an MPPT controller, I'd don't think I'd be comfortable leaving it on the that connection unattended. I've seen more that once when an MPPT controller just went for broke, so to speak, by trying to reach it's rated output regardless on input voltage.

These units are great but fall in one area, Car charging. Is there a way to charge via the alternator to get more than 100W?
@stevelovesgod
@stevelovesgod Жыл бұрын
yes., you can add an inverter to your car putting out 1,000 watt continously., then switch the settings to pv charging, yu can then use your ac charger. My van I use 2 brick charges, get close to 1,000 watts input charging. Getting a 1,500 watt pure sine wave installed on tuesday

@@stevelovesgod There is a more efficient way: DCDC Step-Up converter (from 12V to 48V) - this should charge with 400-500W

Question - Is there a recommended procedure for disconnecting AC & DC charging cables to avoid any chance of arcing & damage to the connectors ? In particular, the DC5525 input port on my AC200P.
@WaveformScience
@WaveformScience Жыл бұрын
The AC200P has a DC5525 12v output port, and an 8mm AC input port. I'm going to guess you are talking about the input port. The charger has a delay built into it to prevent arcing, but if you want to be absolutely sure you can plug in the 8mm plug first, then plug the AC cord into an powered off outlet strip. After everything is plugged in you can turn on the outlet strip.
@GreKno63
@GreKno63 Жыл бұрын
@@WaveformScience Yes, I'm want to protect both the 8mm AC and the aviation DC charging ports during disconnection, as connection is protected by the built-in delay, but there's no protection during disconnecting. If I'm charging with AC, I'll switch off the AC power first before removing the 8mm plug from the solar generator, and for ending a DC charging session, I've added a switch into my DC supply cables. I'm surprised connector arcing damage during disconnection hasn't been addressed.
@WaveformScience
@WaveformScience Жыл бұрын
@@GreKno63 Disconnection is an issue. I've put a DC breaker on my solar panels to be able to prevent that. Bluetti would have needed to add a relay internally and a switch for said relay to prevent it.

Can the Bluetti D050S DC Charging Enhancer work with the AC180 in a vehicle? Thank you in advance
@bobhilder1469
@bobhilder1469 10 ай бұрын
According to the details on the website for the AC180, you don't need the DC Charging Enhancer. If your vehicle has a 12 volt "cigarette lighter port" you should be able to charge the AC180 with a simple cable that should have come with the AC180.

The EB150 only has one input port. You can't plug both this and the wall charger into the same input port at the same time.

To anyone that may know how to fix this problem. I have a Bluetti AC200P and the other day I forgot and left some of my equipment on all night, the screen was still on but said zero percent. I tried charging but nothing so I turned it off and back on but now my AC200P has what looks like a back lite screen but blank with no information showing and will not charge. I pulled the cover and main battery voltage is still reading 57.2 volts at the main battery leads. Any suggestions on how I might fix this problem? Thanks, Mike

I just saw yesterday on another you tube video someone had the same problem when either battery ran down to 0%. He said to do this: unplug all input and output power. Long press the power button on AC200 Max for at least 10-12 seconds even after it turns off, then plug the B300 or B230 whichever you have, back into the AC200Max with everything turned off. Then use the power button on the AC200Max with a few seconds press. It turned on the AC200Max and extra batteries , recognizing everything. Hope this helps.

I had a different experience - the charger, to the B300 battery, stopped accepting a charge (charger light turned green), when the batteries hit 30% charge. I have, recently bought, an AC200MAX and 2 B300 batteries. I used 2 Bluetti power supplies, the one that came with the AC200MAX (500-watt) and the one that came with an EB240 (400-watt) bought earlier, and a 700-watt power supply. The power supply plugged into the solar input, at 48 volts, on the AC200MAX and the AC200MAX charger in the AC in port. I plugged the EB240's charger into the B300 and did charge (red light) until about 30% - on the AC200MAX screen. The charger light, connected to the B300, turned green, I plugged the charger into the other B300 and it also turned green. So, the AC200MAX did charge at nearly 1200 watts but the batteries blocked the charger input. Also, do you know of an extension cord for the battery cable - the AC200MAX has the connectors on the left side and the B300 has the connectors on the right. I am stacking them, so I need about 3 more feet of battery cable.
