That looks like a very neat, great portable bit of kit. It should be a good Solar power storage solution for lots of people as it doesn't take up much room and can be moved around if needed. We had a 2.5KW grid-tied solar system put on our previous house, I asked the installers about Wind turbines and they said they were not very efficient, you could maybe run the fridge off them, but nothing more, most seem to be made for yachts rather than household use. I've also seen a few installs on TV and the bigger ones are quite noisy and vibrate too, so I guess ones for home installation are a way off yet. Will be adding solar to the current house, not sure if we'll stay grid-tied or go Hybrid, so we have power storage, but can still sell back to the grid too (we had zero bills for a couple of months on the old house!). Our biggest power consumption is the hot water tank - they just use the Immersion heater here, and leave it on all the time!!! We power ours up every other day for showers etc - Kitchen has its own small on demand hot water system under the sink.

I look and look for a good wind turbine but there’s none out there that are good quality unit you go big size We just don’t get enough sun most of the year 😂 now if I can find a rain power unit well 😂😂😂

@@onemanandhiswhippet Perhaps you need to go old school and build a waterwheel or a windmill? 😉 Or maybe a big Wind Turbine to power the whole village and sell the excess back to the grid? All of our electric here on the South Island is either Hydro, wind or domestic solar excess feeding into the grid. Up on the North Island there is 1 power station that uses Coal or Gas and is powered up for peak times - the rest is Hydro, Wind and Geothermal - plus some domestic solar excess feeding into the grid. We have one Lake (Tekapo) that feeds 6 Hydro stations as it makes it way to the sea, and most of them you wouldn't really know they were there - I must do a video on it as I took a lot of pics last year.

Thanks Dave, interesting to see the system you have built and well done for restricting you daily usage to 5k the best we have done is 9 to 11k and I would say the average household is 20k+ so they would need 4 of these units. You are right it makes you think how much energy you are using which in this day and age is a good thing but I think the problem is most people aren’t interested or prepared to put themselves out. For the price of the bluetti we got a similar sized system added to our existing solar system which integrates automatically with out grid system so I cannot see the advantage other than houses not connected to the grid. We also have the advantage of cheap/free overnight electricity or we can sell our excess back to the grid which is the way I think the national grid will encourage households especially via firms like octopus energy. Keep up the good videos

I really wanted to see the solar connected and see how much wattage was coming in from your panels? What are you getting please? Also, how heavy is it to lift?

lol 😂 We live on the top of a hill in the middle of the North Yorkshire Moors and at this time of the year it’s mainly rain 🌧️ and fog so no or very little solar so sorry but if you have a better climate and this will take a lot of solar so it will change well in that situation 👍 re carrying it well it’s 60 kg / 132lb But it’s got good wheels and great carrying handles too hope that helps

@@onemanandhiswhippet I'm in Ireland.... It ain't going to be much better here. My bluetti ep500 is on the way, also got two bluetti 350w portable panels coming and a 400w non portable panel.

Yes it not easy with the weather all you can do is get max solar and it you are charging from a mains power do it over night at the lower charge costs 👍
@dieselbushcraft1299 Жыл бұрын
That’s a fantastic setup that you have. I guess when you live in outlying areas then these make sense. I think the drawback is the cost, much as they save money do you think they would pay for themselves? Great bits of kit nonetheless.
@onemanandhiswhippet Жыл бұрын
If we can get it to run all year it would but can’t find a good wind generator and there’s lots of rules of what you can use in a national park so they may not let me have one anyway 🤔
@dieselbushcraft1299 Жыл бұрын
@@onemanandhiswhippet there are wind generators out there that aren’t that big in size but I know it’s all about how much power it generates, that said would it have to generate as much as solar panels because it will generate day or night as long as there’s enough air movement. I guess another consideration is noise too.
@onemanandhiswhippet Жыл бұрын
@@dieselbushcraft1299 I think o would need a minimum of a 2kw wind generator to I’ve looked at lots of the but they are all poor quality until you get to the big 10kw units I think they will be available soon tho 👍👍

The initial investment is rather expensive, plus equipment/technology like this is rather new and will eventually need fixed or replaced. I guess if power cuts are an issue, this could be handy. I'm glad we have a grid connection that is reliable and we don't find it expensive for what we get in return...gas prices, pity I cannot say the same. Anyway, good show Dave 👍

Good day to you! Thank you for your video on the ep500 pro. Now, considering that you also own the AC200 max, could you please tell if the fan is as equally loud and if the idle power consumption of the EP500pro is much higher than it is of the AC200max? Do you think it makes s sense to upgrade from the AC200 max to the ep500pro for any reason or just get some expansion batteries for the ac200max. We are also powering our small cottage from the AC200max. Thank you for your reply in advance! Adrian from Austria.
@onemanandhiswhippet Жыл бұрын
Hi there I think the sound of the EP500 is not as loud as the AC200 and the advantage of the EP500 is the inverter is bigger and better for home use 👍 hope that helps 🙏👍👍

It might be different in the UK, but here in Australia the EP500 Pro is not compatible with the B300S expansion battery, the B300S only works with AC500 unit. If you somehow managed to get them connected, please explain how you did this as the only way to expand the EP500 Pro is with a second EP500 Pro unit.

You can use the B300 and the B230 batteries with this unit please check their website you can also buy them as a package of their website too bluettipower.co.uk/products/ep500pro-2-b300

@@onemanandhiswhippet Thanks for the reply. I looked at your UK website and even checked your UK manual that was listed for it but there is no mention of linking an expansion battery with the EP500 Pro other than the 12v/24v connection via a PV port. The way I figure it is that there are only 2 ports for putting power into the EP500 Pro, first being the AC port and the second being the PV port. Now you can't use the AC port for a DC battery so that leaves only the PV port which has two 12v-150v 1200w DC inputs. You might be able to connect the 50v DC expansion battery to the EP 500 Pro via one of the PV ports via the MC4 connection and set the setting in the system to say DC1 input to PV and trick the unit into thinking it's a solar panel charging it but the downside to that is now you have lost 1200w of solar input capacity and with no way to charge your aux expansion battery as it will only accept current not discharge it back out. All very confusing really.

what about offgrid? if say you get one of these with a couple of back up batteries, given the limited solar we get in our part of the world, one would need to use a conventional petrol/diesel generator to charge everything up? How quickly does the EP500pro charge from a genny? thanks
@onemanandhiswhippet Жыл бұрын
Hi there if the generator runs at 240v it will take the same time as mains charging Via the AC charging cable, the EP500 Pro can be charged within a short time, namely within 2, 2.5 hours. It is also possible to charge the EP500 Pro via solar panels. The maximum input is 2400 W. This allows the charging time to be limited to approximately 3 to 4 hours.

Hi Dave so this is more powerfull than the ecoflow delta pro 🤔 I wonder how long this would last me with Heavy use using alot of everyday items living full-time vanlife before it needs charging again 🤔
@onemanandhiswhippet8 ай бұрын
Just do the maths work out how much you use in a day the divide it by the amount of power in the unit than add what you think you will get on an average day from solar 👍👍

Useing a lower Wattage kettle make no sence. To boil the same amount of water in a 800w and a 2200w kettle will use the same amount of power the 800w one will just take longer to boil.
@onemanandhiswhippet Жыл бұрын
You need to think of the total capacity of power that you want to use at the same time if your appliances are all lower wattage, you can use more at the same time this is more to do with the inverter size you have 👍👍

It makes sense for power stations and inverters that are less powerful and cheaper to buy.. big power stations with big inverters are expensive
