Loved the bit about Speca, can't wait to see what else he does in his career. He looked sharp against Kent State

How about some actual questions about the Illinois game..... Won't the media be able to spend time with the 1994 team on Saturday? I'm not in the media, but I'll give some examples beyond the game and team questions that were asked: - How does the PSU WR group match up with the Illinois secondary who seems to be the best secondary they will have faced this seasn? - Illinois defense has been very effective in their games so far, so who on that defense seem to be the difference makers that have resulted in the improvement so far in 2024? - Do you expect to play Martin this game at RB against Illinois? WIth as little opportunity there is for information in the limited pre-game press converences nostalgia questions seem like wasted questions..........

Considering the magnitude the '94 team has on the audience, this is the last time they will talk to Franklin before the game and those reporters are writing stories anyway about the '94 team visiting / being honored this weekend - a quote from the current coach adds to their story. Not saying your point isn't valid, but that's why. As for your questions, you know he isn't going to say anything outlandish, headline grabbing or even hinting at strategy. I don't fault him for these types of answers but they likely would have been along the lines of: - Their secondary has some talented players and our guys are working, along with Allar, to maximize opportunities and we are challenging our guys to step up as we have all spring, fall camp and so far this season. But yeah, they have some guys on their secondary that have impressed us - (usually calls out specific opposing players as his preamble to his Monday presser. I don't remember the guys he mentioned but may have something to check out if you didn't see it already) - Martin will be ready to go but finding touches considering Nick and Kaytron's roll as who we believe is the best combo of running backs in the conference. (probably says something like they are 1 and 1 a or co-starters. Also, probably won't offer much about Martin playing since that hints on the status of Cam Wallace being the #3 back so far this season and his health, which you know he isn't going to get into). I don't remember which podcast I heard it from, but it might have been Bob Flounders or Audrey Snyder years ago talk about how talking to the coaches was the least helpful in getting insight. (They weren't knocking the coaches for it, just saying how it is) Franklin, Bielema or even Paterno are (superstitiously? paranoia?) about not giving away anything that can be considered an advantage to the opponent and giving respect to the opponent, as well as not saying anything that could be negative about their own players. They talk about playing Temple or Villanova the same as they talk about Ohio State or the like.

Your first question would have resulted in a generic response about the Illinois secondary being talented and how it'll be a good challenge for our WRs. If you want to hear about the Illinois players the staff is impressed with you can watch the Monday press conference where he lists those players every week for the upcoming opponent. Your third question would have resulted in a non committal answer about deciding based on game flow and situation that provides no insight. At best you may have gotten a vague answer about plans to use 3 RBs. All of your questions would have been a massive waste of a question and the people who have been doing this for years and know Franklin's habits know what to ask to get relevant information better than you do, clearly.

@@MaggieDozeryour comment didn't show up until after I sent mine but we basically said the same thing. Albeit you were much nicer.

@@MaggieDozerDude, I absolutely loved your response to the original question. Thank you for not just explaining it out. Like you, I understand the frustration, and the tint of sarcasm is not lost. 😂

Illinois looks like a team of replacements. Left tackle, left guard, two receivers and a tight end were lost to the NFL. Patchwork line protecting a pocket quarterback with a weak arm that likes to underthrow 50/50 balls, back shoulder. Reggie Love transferred leaving Faegin who added 30 lbs. at Panda Express. At 250 lbs., Faegin leads the battering ram that can plow nickel defenders. Fortunately, King seems ready to return. Won’t have to rely on the young linebackers being in position to tackle the train. Illinois’ defense lost Newton, two defensive tackles and an outside linebacker to the NFL. Two corners portal’d out. Five man, soft base front, man coverage, one deep. How does Kotelnicki not have a field day creating match ups from the box? We shouldn’t need turnovers like last year.

Did you get your professional analysis certificate from Temu? You don’t throw 0 INTs by under throwing balls. Feagin is pure muscle, a reason he was named to the “all freak athlete” team. Our “patchwork” team is still better than anything Bowling Green about beat your ass with.

Press Conference number 39 of petitioning for the firing of Jimmy "Real Football People" Franklin. Hopefully, the next time I make one of these, the season will still be in tact, but I wouldn't put it past Franklin for it not to be.
