Coin Horder, gators and sharks. Also, squids. Did you know that the Lionfish which are very poisonous are spreading throughout our ocean. A guy got stung by one and committed suicide because the pain was so severe and excruciating painful. Anyways, water that murky? I'd never dive down in. So yes. Great point.

Ok, so I have an answer, a problem, and a question for you and your videographer buddies. In this video at mile marker 15:00 I see some striation in the light. So here is my answer: this is caused because you are using an LED light and LED tends to strobe on camera when using high fps 60, 120, etc. this particular striation is caused by a phenomenon called “shutter roll” but it usually just shows up as an annoying strobe. My problem: i like to get high fps (240) under water while doing action shots. However, as you know, the higher the fps the more light you need. My problem comes from the fact that all the underwater lighting I can find is LED and i get this reoccurring problem. My question: are there any “non LED” underwater lighting options out there and where do I find them? I’ve searched everywhere with no luck. Any guidance in this area would be greatly appreciated.
@BlueWorldTV
@BlueWorldTV 7 жыл бұрын
The waymanufacturers allow you to lower the brightness of an LED light is to flash it on and off really fast. It's actually really hard to reduce the brightness of an LED by normal "dimming" (lowering the current to the LED) so they run it at full power but flash it on and off really fast. Your eyes can't see the flashing, but the camera can. To make the light 1/2 brightness, they turn the LED on for a short period of time, then off for an equal amount of time. So on average the LED is illuminated for 1/2 as long, and that looks to our eyes like 1/2 brightness. It's actually full brightness alternating really quickly with zero brightness. If the rate at which the LED blinks is not significantly higher than the frame rate of your video, you can actually see the strobing in the video as striations in the light. Lights made specifically for video use a high frequency so they don't create these striations. In the Megalodon video, the light on my head was Alan's "headlight" for finding teeth--not a dedicated video light--and it was not flashing at a high enough frequency, so you can see the lines. However, it's interesting to note that at full power, most LED lights don't flash...the LEDs just stay on. So you won't get the lines. I didn't run the light at full power in the Meg video because otherwise it wouldn't last the whole day, so we had to just deal with it. Note that our BigBlue video lights DO NOT have this issue, at least at the frame rates we use, up to 60 frames/sec. I have never tried them any higher than that (120 fps, 240 fps) but I will. Run your LEDs at full power and they should not create these patterns.

Haha youre not kidding . My first dive was in Hawaii , i was pretty young and got split up from my group , and I remember i was swimming between these huge rocks trying to go back and they were converted in urchins, and the rocks got closer and closer together and i just barely slipped out without touching anything LOL. Then that same day we went to an extinct volcano somewhere off the island , and of course a big ol shark showed up.

In the USA: Seasons 1-4 aired on PBS. Seasons 2-4 aired as well on AWE Network. Season 5 is still being negotiated by our distributor. Outside the USA, Blue World is on a bunch of various channels in about 12 countries. Currently we are working on a big TV deal in China and the Far East. But from a production point of view, we now consider ourselves a KZbin show, and any TV contracts are secondary. Our fans watch KZbin more than TV.

@@BlueWorldTV Aren't you worried about gators in the river? I do not know if there are any or not. But they seem to be all over the coastal area of the Southern part of North Carolina.

Wow that is such a cool dive! Darkness, zero vis, current, crawling on the bottom of the river, it's almost like being on an alien planet or in space, talk about exciting! Awesome video! I'm wondering what was the depth of the dive though, it doesn't seem to be too deep.

@@BlueWorldTV Just that shallow and complete darkness, absolutely crazy. I can't stress enough how wonderful the Blue World team is for responding to comments on videos, new or old. I am confident you're the only channel this big to engage in doing so, you've responded to 90% or so of my comments on your videos. You guys are the reason I want to keep on pushing forward with my scuba education and eventually get cave certified. Safe diving guys!
