I grew up in Bluff City and lived there from 1999 to 2006. The house I lived in is no longer there, it burned down later, but it was a white two story with a staircase that seemed huge to a little kid. You can see the back and side of the school at 7:59. My house was across the street from where the front of the school used to be. It was called Maple Street back then and I remember the school's entrance being on the hill (now Carter Street). Little Shawna (who was underweight at 5) spent many a day trudging that hill.

Bluff City- how cool. I'm anxious to see this. Awesome rainbow! You say you've had a lot of rain this summer. We've had almost none, since the end of Spring. I don' think I've ever seen a rainbow last as long as that one did. Wow. When we visited Bluff City several years ago, it was just to see the old log church, so we never saw the downtown at all. That suspension foot bridge is awesome. We have one here in NJ, but it's far from here and I've never been to it. Aw man, it's just what I was afraid of. You never got to Ryder Church Road. ☹That's where the Ryder Memorial Presbyterian Church is. That's an old log church. It's really cool. I loved that mural at the end too.

I grew up in Bristol just about a ½ hour drove from Bluff City. There is a bike shop there I believe my parents purchased my sister and I our first real mountain bikes. Actually where we lived was a quiet little neighborhood off the Blountville Hwy. Best childhood a kid could ask for in the 1980s-1990s. Unfortunately we moved away because my dad worked for (Intermountain Telecom at first, which eventually became Sprint) and his office got downsized and relocated during the 90s rise of digital tech. He used to write computer programs, but his job now could probably be performed by today's computers. Anyway, almost 30 years on, I still feel homesick for the mountains and it is my dream to retire somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains or Pisgah NF. Thank you for going to these beautiful towns.

The school started off as Bluff City High School and then became Bluff City Middle School in the late 60's. That's where I went to school in the mid 80's. If you saw the "Bouton House," it was built in the early 1800's by the oldest son of my first ancestor to move to this area from Lancaster, PA. Love BC.

Shane you had me laughing so hard! Very cool little town! That view on the bridge was spectacular, perfect fall looking view and good for the ghosts and goblins!😁. Walking and listening to all those bugs you could close your eyes and think back to civil war times. That is exactly what they were hearing too. I love doing that. That puts me back in to the historical time period if that makes any sense! Very much enjoyed!👍

oh my god, if you turn right at those railroad tracks and left up to the neighborhood above, my best friend lived there, and i was on a road called Timber Ridge. and the Methodist brick church you passed, the tree on the right we used to hide in on sundays eating lunch and watching folks leave. And that old bank building with the pillars was the town hall for ages. what a treat to see this again. Awesome!

My dad and I are planning to go there for the first time in 35 years to visit my great grandfathers gravesite in the fall, and I think we are kinda curious if that area is even accessible now. There was a Tragic story on the "Faces of the forgotten" youtube channel about a murder that happened in Pilgrim, but that's really about the extent of anything new from that area. Thanks for the great content!

I worked at Wardens deli .His last name fit cause he was like a very grumpy old warden,😁 . I always calling the town Mayberry. My dad's sister and her family were scattered round the town. One time ,about 1960,my dad stopped at the bridge and we all walked out on it. Then he took a picture with and old Brownie camera of us which I now call "THE PICTURE " For you see while my mom and brother were picture perfect I was caught bending sideways with my hand behind me. I was trying to undo a wedgie while grinning for the camera!😂 The locks on the fence may seem harmless but they may be fatal to it. Overseas there was a bridge that was covered with them and the weight ended up collapsing it. The painting of the train was painted by my estranged son. Guess I missed you two by a little bit. On Tue and Thur I work at a house right across from the gas station. If it hadn't been foggy you could have seen the Island to your left. Was a park but ended up being private property years ago.

Love your videos. When I watch I feel like I am traveling with you both. Beautiful little town. Only one critique for Melody..... when you were naming off the previous names of Bluff City you should have said " then it became " instead of then it become" . I don't know if that is just the way you speak sometimes or is it a dialect ( like many Appalachian words). You probably really don't care if you let your Appalachian roots show but it does show signs of being uneducated and by watching your videos I know you are not. We all fall into bad grammar pits but you must remember the world is watching and by not speaking correctly it conjures up bad stereotypes of un- intelligent southerners. Please do not take this comment as harsh, or mean, but do take it as constructive criticism that can be worked on. Love to both.
