I can't help but enjoy the track in part due to do my immense love for Costello. With that said; you tell why this is just on KZbin and that Blur probably didn't want to record this that badly. I kept waiting for more of that blur signature and they never quite bring it or live up to the original.

I don't think people hate the *song* but a lot of people (myself included) feel like Blur (a great band) are pretty much going through the motions here. They sound like they're doing it because their management told them to do it. You kind of wish they'd had the balls to say 'can't we just do a Blondie song?' Blur are fantastic, one of the greatest bands of the 1990s/early 2000s. But compared with Elvis Costello, they're in the kindergarten when it comes to song-writing. This is a great band doing a robotic/can't be arsed cover of a great song, and I suspect that is what's getting people's backs up a bit. If you want to hear how it *can* work when a 1990s/Britpop artist covers a punk/new wave-era song, try Lily Allen's version of The Clash's 'Straight to Hell'. *That* works, and it works because she has some respect for what is actually a bloody good song in the first place.
