@bubbacalling6 ай бұрын
@@paulrichardson9843 I think it was massive because Britpop was at its absolute peak. Blur or Oasis could release an hour of someone shitting on a toilet and it would have sold. Listening back to it now, it's not great imo. The Universal is a fantastic song but the observational-everyday-brit formula for the other songs was a bit dead at that point.

Brit-pop is such an anomaly to me...I don't get it. Blur was basically a 1 hit wonder in the US/Canada with the woo hoo song....their other songs never took off. Same with Oasis. I think the Gallagher brohers are great but my whole life I only ever heard about Wonderwall and the widely labelled as a "classic" album, Morning Glory. Personally, I find Oasis' music the most bland, basic, generic rock music I've ever heard in my life - it's like paint by numbers - nothing original besides a handful of songs from their first 2 albums. I wish I understood the appeal.

Listen to ‘This is a Low’, the last track on Parklife. It’s a masterpiece. It might also help if you listen to The Shipping Forecast beforehand. Imagine you live on a collection of grey islands in the North Atlantic, with melancholic faded grandeur and past glories.

@@Tele-musik do you really think so? I find some blur songs really annoying like pop scene, song 2 country house. And when they get experimental like on 13 and think tank the songs are not really there. There’s more drama in suede’s music and suede have their anthems too. I also think Brett Anderson is a way better front man than Damon Albarn.

I read Alex's autobiography and he alludes to fame going to their heads. He said Graham Coxon used to based at certain pub surrounded by a group of sycophants. Alex also said once they got really famous, they never really hung out together. Everyone had their own individual Crews who they associated with.
