This video feels ageless. Hard to imagine this was 1995. edit: ageless meaning that the video has held up well since the 90s - especially in comparison to other videos of that era. it’s creative, impactful and the concept could be used today to the same effect.

I saw blur at Hyde Park in London and my best friend and my wife wanted to leave just before the end of the concert to beat the traffic and I said absolutely no way becauce The Universal is yet to be played. Wow! Reading the comments I was surprised that not many people got the ClockWork Orange reference! The one eye in black liner, they even popped up the hat a few times, and made all the right sexual references. And when someone says this is the worse Blur song, really, THE worse. I love Blur, but I can name other songs that aren't that great.I do love the priest lunging at the poor guy next to him at the end of the video! Great! Now I want to watch ClockWork Orange again.

why don't you read the book instead?

Your absolutely right. I will read the book. Books are so much better than the movie, unless it's the Twilight series! LOL.

Cult classics are the weird yet powerful books and movies that imprint a generation. They often step outside the box of societies measurement of normal but they have a way of surviving many more generations. I had my son watch all of the cult classics I could. He read some, but being a bookworm he was busy reading books that will be cult classics of his time, and I'm sure he will pass them on to his children.

Sultry, I raise a proverbial toast to you!! I'm blessed, at 40, to have had a very classic and Classical education: it was started at home, reading.

This is the next century Where the universal's free You can find it anywhere Yes, the future has been sold Every night we're gone And to karaoke songs How we like to sing a long Although the words are wrong It really, really, really could happen Yes, it really, really, really could happen When the days they seem to fall through you, well just let them go No one here is alone, satellites in every home Yes the universal's here, here for everyone Every paper that you read Says tomorrow is your lucky day Well, here's your lucky day It really, really, really could happen Yes, it really, really, really could happen When the days they seem to fall through you, well just let them go Well, it really, really, really could happen Yes, it really, really, really could happen When the days they seem to fall through you, well just let them go Just let them go Compositores: Steven Alexander James / David Rowntree / Damon Albarn / Graham Coxon :V

Glorious live. "Darker than anything on Parklife, The Universal was one of two Damon songs in 1995 to describe a future British population woozy under the effects of an over-the-counter panacea (the other, 'Ultranol', appeared on the CD single of The Universal). It began life during the Parklife sessions as a bossa nova, proving unworkable and - when Damon played it to Justine Frischmann - even a source of derision. He accidentally hit on the offbeat strings part while playing a keyboard, whereupon violins, brass and a female choir - the traditional Blur studio artillery of the time - were brought in by Stephen Street. Justine still called it Damon's worst ever song."
