Thanks so much for posting John's video Michael. I was playing rack harmonica for 3-4 years several hours a day, this year I started having severe headaches in my occipital nerve at the back of my head. I finally concluded it must have become irritated from the tension I was creating while contorting my neck to meet the harmonica. When I stopped playing it took a few weeks for the pain to go away. I can only play a few songs now and it will flare up again. I only share this because other people might have this problem. I am hoping I can adjust my rack with your advice here to start playing again. I love John's sound, he has a very natural style, take care. UPDATE: Micheal, I modified my harmonica rack so it sits lower on my neck by drilling new holes further up on the frame which lowers the harmonica, now my mouth meets the harp right at the sweet spot where my head is not contorted backwards. I played for a half hour last night, pain free, I feel like I got my music life back again. Without your video I would never have considered modifying the rack itself. Thank you so much!

On that first rack I played through, I rebuilt almost from scratch. The friction washers made all the difference.

I would argue that if you can 'look up' and your chin just clears the harmonica in its rack you have got it at the right level. That said I appreciate people have different size chins...
