My cousin, he's a mechanic but I don't speak to him often, serviced my car for me and my cigarette holder hasn't been working since. It didn't bother me at first because I still haven't passed my test but I am ready to take my test now so I want it to work so I'm able to keep my phone charged when commuting. Nobody I knew could tell me what was wrong with it, but I came across your video and checked the fuse for it- low and behold the fuse needed changing. LOL, i actually thought this was too simplistic an explanation. So it turns out that after removing all the dashboard searching for a cut in the wires, it was the passenger 12V cigarette lighter in the back that had a penny stuck deep inside. Thanks for this.

I have a Volkswagen Polo and my friend thought it would be a good idea to see if a USB would plug in without the adaptor! He fused the socket obviously. Without this video I probably would have ended up paying £200 or something to get it fixed. Thanks!

Thanks, I realised the info-panel for my fuse box was reversed. Found the blown fuse. Now I can charge my phone and plug in my compressor. Nice!

Hey i don't have the fuse card on the cover and in the manual it shows the cigarette lighter fuse at a different place yet that fuse in that location has a different amp and it isn't blown do you know how to figure this out?

@@Neemi96 Hi, it's a 15A fuse that sits in there, don't know which model it is but google your car and year, images fuse card and locate from there it's worth trying.

Thanks for the video - not familiar with the Polo fuse panel but I shouldn't have any probs with doing it myself now!! Only thing is I'm puzzled as to why the fuse blew - no coins down it and I was charging my phone Monday night and today I wanted to do the same and no power. Hope it doesn't blow again....

nice video, can you do one on a mk4 wagon with dome, map, trunk and door puddle lights not coming on problem? (also the climate control back lights do not come on either). The a/c illumination light works. Dashboard and radio lights work fine, door locks & factory alarm work fine.

This does not just work for Volkswagens, it's a common problem and is generally the issue with any car in which one of the electronic devices isn't working. Just find your fuse box and replace any one that is blown. A pack of new fuses costs something like 5 bucks at most auto shops.

Great video mate, but I have a quick question. I drive a 99 mercedes slk230. I did blow out the 15 amp car lighter fuse and also found out that it disabled a few other fuse slots when I checked it with the volt meter to see if there was power. When I started the car, it was smoking. I didnt know where it was smoking from until the nest day. I found out the fuse for the car lighter was blown so I replaced it. Boom.. Right away it blew. and now my car wont start. It cranks, but it wont start. In your opinion, and with your experience, what do you think could be the cause. Oh, by the way, the wire from the fuse box which is under the hood to the cigarette lighter had melted the outside skin. You could see the bare copper wire. It only melted that one and that's why it smoked.. What can I do if I;m broke and have no money to spend on taking it to the shop. How can I fix it at home? Any response would be much appreciated. Hi mate. Just a quick question. I'm trying to tap of the power from my cigarette lighter. When I check behind the cig lighter in the Polo, there's 3 wires. A red w/ yellow stripe, a green and a brown. I know one is ground and one is the 12v power but I'm not sure what the third wire is for? Advice?

Hi, looking for some advice. I've got a VW Golf 1.6 Bluemotion 61 plate and the cigarette lighter has stopped working. I tried replacing the fuse in the video and also tested every fuse in that panel and under the bonnet but no resolution. There is no visual damage to the cigarette lighter port itself.. any advice/suggestions??
