Amazing results. I'm retired and I watch KZbin gun videos all day long. This guy is the best shot on the internet. No, it's not 22plinkster. Great video, and a great gun site, AND the best music on the internet. I'm in Texas, and we all originally came from Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri, and that music just says “Home” to us. Good job, Buffalo.

That view down the barrel changing focus from the front sight to the rear sight made the whole video worth it. Nice shooting, four in the bullseye and I'd call the other one an honest flyer. I just ordered one of these for my Marlin because peep sights are excellent and the RPP design looks fantastic on these guns. You showed me I definitely spent good money.

I just bought a Henry .45-70 . The first firearm in my life. I'm 52 and live in British Columbia. Here we have heavy brush/woods and wanted a gun that covers all my bases. Missing 411 cases is another motivator. I think I want a peep sight. If I ever had to defend myself it would be 100 yards or less. 🇨🇦👍

The 'shroud' around the aperture looks great for protection of the aperture, especially when rifle is slinging around the woods.

Not only did you demonstrate how well these sights work, you also showed how well a Henry rifle will shoot and the quality of Federal ammunition. Considering that your rest is not very stable compared to an actual benchrest set up, I think that you shot incredibly well. Overall, a well done video.

Great video, Buffalo! In today's world, it seems like everyone needs some sort of "optic", red dot, laser or high power variable scope. No one seems to remember the utility and value of a good peep sight. They are inexpensive (compared to optics) light, unobtrusive and way accurate enough for hunting at close to moderate ranges. Thanks for reminding us, and for covering the things that all the other channels forget about. Peep sights belong on lever guns. I was fortunate enough to inherit several nice Winchester lever guns and added many others to my collection over the years. NONE have scopes. (cringe!) If there is anything besides the factory open sights on any of my lever guns, it is a peep sight. Even my Savage 99 has a peep sight. I have always considered a lever gun to be handy, slim trim, easy to carry rifle best for moderate ranges and for that, there is nothing better than a large diameter peep sight or a (ghost ring). Attaching a scope to one always seemed to be some sort of betrayal of a trust.
@buffalosoutdoors
@buffalosoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hey I agree with you, especially about the scope on a lever gun statement. It not only doesn't look right but taking a nimble handling, natural pointing lever gun and putting a base, rings and scope on it kills all that.

@Evocati I hunted for forty years on our family's own private property in a state that allowed us to kill 5 deer a year using ANY centerfire cartridge. I killed more than 100 deer in my lifetime. Including one I dropped dead in its tracks with an M-1 carbine (peep sight) while I was out feeding cattle and another I dropped dead with a .22 Hornet from an old Savage Model 340 with peep sight while fixing fences. Both head shots under 50 yards. Those aren't my deer rifles of choice, they were "truck guns" used on targets of opportunity, but I knew my ability within that range. I had killed plenty of coyotes and jackrabbits with those two rifles, I knew my limitations. Add in the deer killed by my four brothers, father, grandfather and 2 sons and there were many hundreds of deer killed. We NEVER lost one due to a peep sight. EVER. Know your limitations and stick to them. Within the range of a lever gun/cartridges a peep sight is a perfectly adequate, humane and viable option. That said...if YOU are unable to shoot well with a peep sight, by all means, use something else.

In 2018 i bought a Ranger Point Precision peep sight for my Henry Brass 45/70. To make it work I have to adjust the peep sight all the way over to the right and use locktite to secure the windage screw that’s almost backed all the way out of the hole. I was not happy with that. So At the suggestion of Ranger Point Precision customer service. I took it to a local Gun Smith and they couldn’t make it work with the factory front sight, Suggesting that I go with Skinner Sights. I’ve kept the Ranger Point Precision peep sight on my Henry 45/70 and so far it still works just fine for my tired old eyes.

Along with a Single Seven, a guy is pretty well set for most anything out here in the high desert. RPP does great work. My Marlin now equals/exceeds the Henry for slickness. Two of my favorites for every day use. Love that .327.PS: Nice shootin'.

Good shooting. Something that I built years ago that worked well for me is a semi portable 3 legged table for sight in shooting. I had an old scrap on treated plywood about 2’ x 3’. Braced the legs well. It is light enough to carry around, and stable enough to make use of sand bags. Or Caldwells rest. Can shoot lefties as well as right hand just move the chair to the otherside.

Buffalo, Just goes to show that accuracy can be well within the sights you use. That is really good shooting, take into consideration. that is a no thrills Henry rifle, it has a lever action bolt and lock up is unlike a bolt action with "T" lugs located right behind the cartridge case, the action locks up on the back portion of the bolt allowing a little bit more of wiggling of alignment when in battery. the trigger is a stock out of the box trigger set by the factory with no adjustments for sear engagement or overtravel. Pretty impressive accuracy. -Dave

Thanks Dave! I got lucky on that 2nd group, I couldn't do that again to save my life! But the overall group size did reflect what I had been getting with it both on and off camera. Sir, that is some damn fine shooting, I must say. Now I am alot older now some 50 plus years from my army infantry days when I had great eye sight as an expert riflemen. I must say, that anyone would be proud and that was some fine shooting, especially for that pistol caliber carbine with iron sights. Well done sir. I to have Skinner peep sights on both my Henry small game 22 LR and my Henry caliber 45 Colt carbine. Like you I did have to go to a higher .625" Skinner partridge blade front sight for that 45 Colt carbine. The factory front sights were fine on the buckhorn sights but off 2.5" at 25 yards and plus 3.5" high at 50 yards with the Skinner peep sights. It gave me an approximate 100 yard zero, with the rear peep sights screwed all the way down with no way to adjust for a closer 50 yard zero, hence the new taller front sight.

Superb group on the second sight-in. You couldn't even see the target on open sights. Must be down to great trigger control.

That front sight bead covered a lot of the target at 50 yards. I got lucky, couldn't do that again if my life depended on it but at least it happened while the camera was rolling! Thanks!

Thanks for another great video Buffalo! I'm interested in how the peep sight does in low light conditions encountered while deer hunting.

In low light I will spin the aperture ring out and run it like a "ghost ring". That's what I do with my Skinner sights and it really helps.

The advantage of these sights for me over the competition is the wings that protect the sights, others I've looked at and owned are vulnerable to getting bumped and broken, probably at the most inconvenient time.

Good video. Man, that is some good shooting. I also use peeps on my lever guns and it’s surprising how accurate they can be.

Stoked to see this. I really don't like the standard Henry rear sight and have been looking for another option. Hope they ship to Australia. Thanks for the info.

Man I couldn't believe it. I think that wind blowing actually helped me. I thought it would be an ugly group so I wasn't stressing about trying too hard.... probably sounds crazy but I really think it helped. I couldn't do that again if my life depended on it.

Buffalo's Outdoors you’re an amazing shot. I can see that taking a lil title edge off would be a benefit. That wind was crazy.

Good video. And I agree. My lever gun and my old revolvers are all I care about on looks. Everything else is a tool

Many years ago I read a study in regards to how long one could / should hold their breath when firing a well aimed shot. The study indicated that after 6 seconds a shooter’s ability to maintain sight alignment begins to deteriorate even though the sights remain in focus. If my memory serves me the study was aimed (no pun) at accurate shooting with a hand gun. After reading that study I made it a point when shooting PPC to breath after each shot and saw my scores improve. Sadly, I should have relaxed my grip after each shot to allow oxygenated blood to flow into my hands in order to maintain a consistent grip pressure.

I like the look of the brass. I'll have to look into these for some of my Henry's. Thanks for sharing!

You gotta luv those Henry rifles,....that was some good shooting there after the sight adjustment! I hope the flooding doesn't do any ( or much ) damage to your range area.
@buffalosoutdoors
@buffalosoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. The water only covered the range by a few inches and has already receded so the damage is basically just muddy grass.

@@buffalosoutdoors I was thinking the worse,...as I've seen so much damage caused by flood waters that I just had to mention it. I am glad to hear this. Here where I live in eastern Canada,..we have a fall season of almost all rain. ( Global weather patterns seem to be changing for sure!) It's strange weather.
