BMI Performance Royalties - How to File

can u register a performance the day before u do the show? or you have to register the performance after the show?

Chris is it the same to put when other performs play your music, and when other performers sell music of yours they interpolated on thier CDs or streams..it's happen to me quite a bit recently and I never gave permission, but I would like to get paid some have been doing this for like 7 or eight years and I haven't received a dime. I had no idea. I even have song snippets on bet jazz, mob wives and MTV music awards performance by a famous actor. Help!

Marcus, if your song they are recording has already been recorded, say by you, they don't need permission, however, they do need a release in order to cover your royalties, for which they are required by law to compensate you for. If you have never recorded the song for release and they are the first to record it, they need a release from you, the writer, on that as well. I would suggest contacting whomever you are with, BMI, ASCAP, or SESAC on this. What they are doing is illegal. You are also entitled to performance royalties when your songs are performed live by yourself, or anyone else.
