Practice, get good at making music, start dropping, STAY consistent, promote yourself & your on. Its not that deep, but it does take work. People either start dropping music & their not that good yet, or the quality sucks...or they drop music once every 3 months & dont promote thereself...etc. You gotta be on top of everything...Be patient, work & you got it!! Lifes what you make it! Awesome video bro, keep em goin!

Exactly right! I feel like there's a massive blue Ocean in crossing digital marketing (online advertising, sales funnels, etc.) and artist brands. It's not authentic for an indie artist to capture leads and sell you a ticket after a consistent drip email campaign, but that's "good marketing" if you're a label? The inconsistencies in this music game are wiiiild

i loved your point about using what we have- because so many times us artists feel discouraged because either we don't have enough money, or enough followers, or yada yada. But the reality is we're just wasting our time complaining about what we don't have vs using our time to enhance the skills that we do have or use the resources that we do have! So thank you for reminding me of that- it's really so helpful!

I put off advertising when I started off because I wanted to get a feel for how putting out content and "organically" marketing works. In the end people being identified with being “genuine” or “organic” or “pure” is really just another thing they will try to play up later to market and promote themselves. The thing your method of promotion does not effect is the quality of your music. Make your music good first. Then understand that people want to hear it and make moves

i came into this expecting "artist" to mean visual arts, like digital drawing, painting, ect Even though i came into this hoping for advice for a different type of art, i was pleasantly surprised that this video still applies PERFECTLY to visual arts, not just music. Good video, and definitely something i needed to hear!

Cardi B isn’t a good example. You can’t take an artist like Cardi B or Taylor Swift two artist with gigantic cooperate machines pushing their brands pouring millions into marketing campaigns. You need promotion and exposure before marketing. Marketing comes from already making enough capital off the song to even CREATE a marketing campaign. Be careful when you use big named artist when using examples. It takes $ to make money but it’s a process and you have to take it step by step. The most valuable part of you is your music and getting into YOUR own specific niche and then feeding that niche with more great music and releasing it consistently. But promoting your songs and getting them proper exposure are honestly 70% of what makes a song successful. When I hear “‘marketing” in the music industry I think, ads, posters, billboards, and music videos in how your song gets to be perceived. But that isn’t something up and coming artist should be focusing on. Not until their songs do enough work for them to even have that extra cash to do any of that. Because the rest of that costs money. You need organic promotion and exposure. Then the rest will follow based upon the audiences reaction to the “product” or “song”.

Of course you need to invest in yourself and put money into your music but TRUST me when I say, some people out here can magically blow up. You have people that buy their careers with so many ads over time and then you have unique talented individuals that blow up because the song extraordinary. Nothing is impossible. You can make it organically and paid

I’m a little more seasoned and I’m from Macon, GA. It was understood that you had to spend money to get heard. We had to go to clubs and PAY the DJs to get your record played. You had to PAY to get in front of people at these showcases. You had to actually take trips to spread the word about your music. You had to PAY to get a big DJ to host a mixtape. You can pay $100 get your song in front of thousands of people all at once now. These labels and these artists have these fake 0-100 in 3 month stories bro. It’s throwing these young artists off their game.

Yea man. That's the old school now....The internet and "going viral" reeeeally made a lot of people run with this "organic" narrative. They even try to flip it and make it sound empowering and pure. Just like "DIY". The buzz words will mess you up though.

Record labels are not STILLING artist money. First of all, this game is not designed for the artist to make money from sell or the record. Its always been designed for an artist to make money on shows appearances and endorsement. Artist sign the contract and then cry they getting beat.... but they are now BIG!!!.

It’s all about the intention. As within, so without, as above, so below. You can’t get big and manifest many followers if you’re frustrated or fearfully trying to push your product unto others. Music is spiritual and it cannot be faked. Almost all the musicians that I look up to made it organically. Where they reached a state of professionalism that comes with practicing for more than 10 thousand hours. Once u reach that state, that frequency of being, you naturally attract situations that get your music heard: either through meeting musicians that already have influence or other connections. We gotta be honest with ourselves as to why we make this music in the first place. Those who truly love music will not have the intentions of trying to manipulate their way through. They’ll just create.
