Awesome footage man. How would you compare the Leica lenses vs the DZO 20-55 lense by the image? Would you prefer one over the other?

I just got the Pictor today and its really good especially compared to a Sigma 18-35. But I've heard so many good things about that Leica but am hesitant to buy bc of price/mounting issues. How did you convert it to the EF mount?
@brunopapic62953 жыл бұрын
@@DL-wm7uc that's nice to hear.. well i am hunting down a leica r set because i actually come from analog photography where i used lots of leica glass and cameras such as M6. sure, price is very high at the moment and it will surely go more up... i think it more the hype than the actual need for leica glass.. but since i am a long time user of leica glass, its more of a personal desire to own a leica r set.
@DL-wm7uc3 жыл бұрын
Brooncheck. Do you happen to be anywhere on the West Coast? Im a film school student and always looking for good glass. If I could try out your Leica for an hour on my Blackmagic 6k pro maybe we can make a monetary arrangement.

Not sure why there is so much obsession about these lenses. They have become the unicorn of bmpcc6k users and of course they are nice but the lens choice at this level is almost irrelevant. There seems to be a feeling that using them suddenly makes the image more “cinematic”?!?? Using them doesn’t suddenly make the camera movement any more solid or the framing more consistent and interesting or the content any less cliched. They achieve nothing in particular that couldn’t be overshadowed by a good grade and content that has some point to it. Matteo Bertolli may have a lot to answer for but at least he shows them used in work scenarios. I for one don’t see anything super special when using them compared to any one of the countless other vintage lens around. There are many but the leicas are becoming something of a badge of honour for a lot of shooters and there is so much more to contend with as a priority to make moving pictures work. It’s great to care about lenses but there are so many other moving parts to nail first and I think it’s easy to get distracted by the hype.

i feel you 100 percent! it is true, that today you can get very good image with almost any type of glass.. and it is very much true that leica r glass is hyped. however, i do see a difference in summicron r series of glass.. like any lens, it has its own character.. i shot with many different lenses such as cooke s series, arri master primes and others.. every lens has its own character.. your job is to choose the lens that suits the best the project you''re working on.. as a cinematographer, on most of my jobs, i rarely would pick leica glass.. but on a private side, and as an old time user of leica glass and cameras such as M6s, i do prefer and love the image that it gives. leica glass, especially summicron series has such beautiful and poetically perfect coating.. contax zeiss as well - amazing coating and amazing glass! after years of experimenting with quality glass, you get to notice difference. hype or not hype, leica summicron r series its own character, ups and downs like any other series of lenses.. it is simply a tool - the only important thing is for what and how you want to use it. p.s. i have never, ever seen such a smoother rollof than on leica r lenses.

It's actually refreshing to see this. I spent A LOT of money on a set and fell into the hype and have been asking myself if my eyes are messed up (lol) or if I just don't see the hype. Side by side tests with modern photo glass shows very slight differences. The nuances that people talk about seem irrelevant in the sense that no one else is going to notice, and for the price you pay for those nuances, it would often be better spent elsewhere. I mean hell, Deakins even said vintage glass is overrated.
@brunopapic62953 жыл бұрын
@@dna8269 like i said, i agree with you. it is definitely overrated, like most things today. i just have a personal and emotional connection to leica glass, from a collectors perspective..

Beautiful image! May I ask, is this an included Resolve LUT or Juan Melara/etc third party version? And any further grading or just general correction?
@Dennis949133 жыл бұрын
probably color space transform to rec709 and cineon film gamma, and then apply the 2383 lut. Yes this lut is included in all versions of davinci under the film looks LUT folder.
@brunopapic62953 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! this is my own version of 2383 I created.. I own Juan Melaras 2383 as well, however having experience with the KD2383 stock first hand I found some things that could be changed.. so I did, from scratch tho, so this one is not connected to Melaras one. It's my own custom made that I basically just made for me.. Didn't know people would be that interested in it. I'm slowly but surely working on a a LUT pack now which will include this KD2383 stock emulation. I don't use any of the Resolve LUTS that are included in there, so I cannot tell you anything. Most of my private color grading is done by my own LUTS that I created for other projects along with my colorist.
