Andrew, don't give up. Not impossible. There is no 'sweet' spot for the throttle, even connected its a little push and pull all the time. Also if there's a problem with the throttle, try to put the airbrake out a little, to force the throttle into a different position. Also try it with/without a loaded jet. Fully loaded it responds more slowly to throttle inputs. Hardest part is to get the 'stabilised' reply, because before this you don't even see the lights. Also make sure you got the 'cleared to contact position', 'rgr' is no good. Practice very accurate close formation flying with you lead (AI) will also help. If you can't do that, then you can't do the refuel. Good luck

I don't think you need to select the 'Ready to Take Fuel' (Y - 2) command once you've requested fuel. At the point you requested fuel (Y-1) and were given the 'Cleared to pre-contact' you are put onto a queue by the system. The tanker then expects each aircraft in sequence from that point onwards. Your only job at that point is then to fly to pre-contact and wait for the boom operator to clear you to contact (he'll just call out when you are in position, it doesn't require any further radio calls yourself). You only need that Y-2 command if you manually use AR DISC to kick yourself off the boom and you want to get back on again instead of letting your wingman top up, it does no other function than this (unless they've changed it in 4.33).

+Gerry Abbott Thanks! Really enjoying BMS. Came from DCS and thought I'd finally give BMS a try. The way the missiles fly off the rail and gain altitude (instead of nose diving off the rail like in DCS) and the way you can loft them to realistically gain range....and also coming in to land is a dream come true. The ai ATC is amazing. I was in heaven when I entered the landing que in the campaign for the 1st time. Was difficult getting used to the bullseye AWACS BRA calls....but finally getting used to it after a week or so. Never used bullseye BRA's in DCS beyond creating a bullseye offset waypoint in the A-10c CDU.

you will need to check the key file in bms, from the settings, controllers, look at theTQS, RADAR CURSORS section. I use a hotas with these functions mapped directly to my stick.

+Gerry Abbott Thank you. :) btw. If you want it to have more realistic (even if it is mainly eyecandy), you can turn off collision lights and set nav lights to steady. In reality pilots have also to turn off their radar because the tanker crew doesn't like it to get radiated. ^^ I am not sure if it is implemented correctly in 4.33, but when you leave the fuel door open for too long before connecting to the boom, it can lead to pressure problems. But you did a good job flying here! If you want to stand stable, or even connect in a turn, there is really no other option than doing it over and over again. the key to it is primarily smaller and more adjustments with stick and throttle all the time. May i ask which HOTAS/Joystick you are using?

Romeo's Channel, for Air to Air, use the Aim 9, and work your way up to Aim 120. To use Aim 9, press A-A, and look at the screen that says SMS, and make sure it doesn't say 51GUN or something similar. Press the button next to 51GUN if it does say it, until it changes to a number-AIM9, or something like that. The Aim 9 is a heat seeker, so you have to aim it into the general direction of the enemy aircraft. It will make a high pitched tone, and when at close range, fire. For the AIM-120 AMRAAM, press A-A until you see the SMS page again, and do the same thing if it says 51GUN, until it's says Number-AIM120 something. Then use the arrow keys to move the radar cursur over the enemy aircraft and press 0 on your number pad on the key board. Then space bar, and you send a supersonic missile at an enemy

@quachimba
@quachimba 9 жыл бұрын
+Saigun X (Saito) it's at a halt because there are some new people that bought the rights over i think thats what was mentioned. They won't do anything to BMS though they will realise that BMS are the only people who kept this game going and improved it so much that it could technically be called Falcon 5.0 (which i'm still waiting for) They might ask BMS to join their team to make an official release but that too i really doubt they just asked BMS to pull it down for now till they basically talk with each other. BMS 4.33 can be found still on many torrents all over the net so can the falcon4.exe file that is required for installation. I wish Microprose never disbanded.

No Refueling will ever take place at 400Kts (can a KC 135 go that fast :-), just saying. 270 to 280 is the standard....
@christianrode2549
@christianrode2549 7 жыл бұрын
Referring to your comment, I watched the vid again, and yes....I missed the "T" displayed on the Airspeed Ladder....Here is the thing though. You normally do not fly around in TAS. In modern Jets the speed selected is KCAS (calibrated Airspeed). If you have to refuel with combat load, you might want to ask the tanker crew to speed it up a bit to make it a bit easier (get the AOA down, as you were saying). Altitudes will most likely not be above FL 300. Tornado was only cleared to FL245 for example. The reason for using CAS is simple. The numbers are the same every time. We don't really care much about TAS in the Jet. That might be different for weapons trails. If timing is involved you would reference Ground Speed. If have done this for 23 years...just my 2 cents. Anyway good job on the tanker..:-) Fly Safe...
@gerryabbott
@gerryabbott 7 жыл бұрын
Many thanks, as im not a pilot, really dident fully understand TAS/CAS/IAS/GS until now. Yes I should have been in CAS, pretty much all the time. I generally look to the Mach number when flying (not so for landing since we get CAS automatically with gear down in ~BMS). Mach is Pretty good indicator of air maneuver speed. (as distinct from Navigation speed). In fact it is specified for some weapon system limits.When I used to fly online, we used caret for navigation, and shared RPM and not speed.
@AFMetal666
@AFMetal666 7 жыл бұрын
It actually depends on what the tanker is hitting: most fighters usually tank at around 310-315 KIAS (same as Cal'd A/S, depends on who you ask) The speeds you're referencing are usually for hitting heavies. But, you're right, even with the high speed booms, they won't be passing gas at 400 KIAS. The "R" and "T" models do have some get up 'n go, though...And as for altitudes, it all depends on the mission. Gerry, nice work hooking up to the boom. As a former KC-135 Crew Chief, I've seen R/L pilots struggle in the turn as well. It's always funny seeing the Boomer in the pod just constantly flicking the FWD light to get the receiver in position!

well, while is is nearly free, it is a real pain to set it up, use, or create missions, Korea map as bad as it gets while the only good map makes BMS crash, Everything you fight has the flight model of f16, so good luck trying to out turn a mig 21, unless you drop everything you got and burn all your fuel in endless turns, many things don't really work in f16 (more things then a DCS plane), and last but not least the flight model will not allow you to spend your energy to a thigh turn in order to get a firing solution. I do admit that you can really see the hard work and dedication in this sim, but unless they will take the work and knowledge and produce a sim in line with 2018 sims, it will just fade away. Yes i would pay 80-100 Euro for a sim with let's say just f-16 block 52, where everything is functional (I know IFF is still a military secret but you can always do it based on game sides), one big map at Baltic's level, with different flight models for different planes, GOOD TE, and equally good key bindings, and a newer engine that can handle all and also be stable. OR they could just take their mesh, scripts and knowledge and release a DCS module.
@gerryabbott

Hmm. Like everything there's plus & minus. Best mission planner in any sim except tornado. Package management, timing etc second to none. And can be done in MP campaign.. Not for the feint hearted, and bit of learning. Check my video on it. Best feature is campaign engine. But if you don't play that in MP. Then you are not seeing it at its best. I love DCS, and jump in for new maps and modules, But always come back to BMS. Long may it live.

I do play fly sims for the illusion of being a pilot, not to outgun and/or outmaneuver another player. After more then 7000 h of PVP I can say that at it's core, PvP is all about cutting corners, while simulators are about realism. From the entertainment perspective you can't cut corners while doing everything by the book. This is why I don't play any PvP in my sims and why I always go to a pvp focus game for when I feel like competing. As for the BMS, I was really let down when I realize that you can't even stall the plane while turning. I was so let down that didn't really play it after that. No timing can beat triggers and we will get dynamic campaign in DCS eventually, and a F16. They clearly stated that I do hope the BMS developers will move forward and because I don't see any bright feature for the BMS, unless they will switch engine, but that require a huge amount of money and time, and that is why I said that for them switching to BMS platform may be the best thing. p.s. I am the same guy but I am to lazy to switch accounts :)
@gerryabbott
@gerryabbott 6 жыл бұрын
Might be totally wrong, but I thought that the FLCS in the F16 tries to prevent such low speed stalls, by limiting the g's. I agree with you on PVP, and have played many hours of it on DCS and some on IL2. Think most squads BMS squads don't do PVP as a rule, except for maybe honing dogfight skills. Oh and I would not be holding my breath for an f16. Look how long the f18 was talked about (i'd guess 5 years). and is only here in alpha now. As for a DC, well that's an even longer story.
