I know this is an old video, but my hat is off to the developers, to code this variety of tactical smarts into AI is amazing. Thanks OP this is an excellent training aid, well done!

Yep, the BMS AI is definitely more interesting than the AI in DCS. I hope ED improves it someday.

BTW, just be aware as well that AI skills makes vary the tactics / Weapon employment / reactivity vs threat etc....

Is it possible to choose the AI tactics in a TE? Because the most of the times they do the offensive split, as a result the don't create any depth in their attack, and after the first commit they are easy targets.

I like how ultimately everyone's plan is: I'm going to shoot and then run away so I don't die. Very sensible, but not particularly exciting.

Very very great video here . FYI short azimuth is not for BVR training , more WVR with IR only :) you can also test vs 4 aircraft of the same flight , you will see interesting stuff . Besides tactics is also different after the first engagement depending on many parameters , but that would be a pita to showcase all the cases :)
@CallsignJoNay5 жыл бұрын
Oh that makes sense. I wonder why the BMS guys put Short Azimuth into the BVR tactics drop down?? I haven't flown any campaigns in 4.34 yet. I assume the AI randomly chooses a tactic when you encounter them in a campaign mission....does Short Azimuth get included in the "dice roll"? It would be a free kill for the player about 1 in 7 times if that's the case.
@captlazerhawk5 жыл бұрын
@@CallsignJoNay Not a free kill just make you waste missiles if the diffuculty is on ACE

Callsign: JoNay Because dogfight module can also be used to train WVR. in campaign the tactics are not chosen randomly . There are chosen depending on mission type , weapon type , tactical position . So no they won’t do a short azimuth if they are BVR. Besides , evolution of the tactics depends also on many parameters like rwr spikes. In campaign there are also more tactics available for AI then those listed in DGf module
@CallsignJoNay5 жыл бұрын
@@MultiJp51 I see. Good information here, thanks. I wonder if maybe the devs should've titled the dropdown "tactics" instead of "BVR tactic". Would probably be less confusing. Oh well.

It seems like the result is much the same in all cases. Even when they're notching, you still get missiles on each of them.

I wish ED would bring this level of AI to DCS. I guess until that happens I have to continue to leverage human aggressors for training support. Nice video!

Thanks! Yes I agree, I would love to see an overhaul of the AI in DCS. I think the BFM logic is OK and gets the job done, but I really hope they overhaul the BVR and 2v2, 2v1, and 1v2 BVR and especially WVR logic.

Considering the results are pretty much identical (except for Grinder and Short Azimuth), what is the purpose of those tactics?

Excellent video, and a good way to learn. How do you get TWS like symbology in RWS? Haven't tried launching multiple AIM120s yet.
@CallsignJoNay5 жыл бұрын
In RWS soft lock the first contact with one press of TMS up. Then drag the cursor off the first contact, place on to second contact, TMS up again. You can keep two contacts soft locked in RWS. Toggle between them with TMS right. You can guide two missiles on to two contacts in RWS. In TWS you can use TMS right to cycle through multiple contacts and put six missiles out onto six contacts.

Is that horrible "Lock"-sound from the RWR normal in BMS? Whats the purpouse behind the noice?
@CallsignJoNay4 жыл бұрын
Yes it's a spike tone, so the hostiles are hard locking me. Every radar type triggers a unique sound to help the pilot identify and differentiate threat types. It's probably supposed to be annoying so that it demands the pilot's attention.
@killkesscmbn4 жыл бұрын
@@CallsignJoNay Thx for your awnser. What kind of information can u gather from that chirping? Signal strenght? I mean u can already see the kind of threat on the RWR-display. Thats the first time i hear such sounds in a rwr simulation. Is that based on real behaviour?
@CallsignJoNay4 жыл бұрын
@@killkesscmbn It just means that I'm being hard locked. So same thing as single target track. It does not necessarily mean that a missile is in the air, although it's safe to presume there will be soon. And the particular style of chirping gives me an additional sensory cue that it's a Mig-29 radar, (also used by Flankers). If it was an SA-6 or something it would generate a different spike tone. I can't vouche for the real life accuracy of the spike tones. I suspect they are classified, and the devs probably approximated the sounds as best they could, but it's a question that might be worth asking on the BMS forums if you're really curious about it.
@killkesscmbn4 жыл бұрын
@@CallsignJoNay That u deal with a 29/27 threat is already clearly displayed on the RWR display... i wondered why/how confusing the pilot with sounds will help keep SA if there is no benefit otherwhise. But again, thx for your awser.
@CallsignJoNay4 жыл бұрын
@@killkesscmbn Like I said, it's an extra sensory cue to help confirm what your eyes are seeing. Sometimes mistakes are made when you're glancing at multiple sensor displays, so it actually helps to improve SA not detract from it.
