On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

The weird part is that the AIM-120 like other big missiles uses a proximity fuze. It doesn't have to physically it the target and the explosive cone will shred the target rather than relying on an impact. Despite it being a few feet behind the enemy aircraft it should have detonated.

Another tip would be to reduce your throttle when cranking and then increase when skating, my time in the Tomcat has taught me merging is never really a good idea, reduce throttle, reduce closure, stick to your BVR timeline of sanitize -> meld -> engage -> crank -> skate -> recommit and repeat and youll avoid a merge very well.
@joshmurray6559
@joshmurray6559 2 жыл бұрын
Another note would be to not crank in one direction, if he launches again while you crank, that missile is gonna cut you off and kill you easy, crank left and right before skating

Awesome video, I learned a lot, thanks for it. If I may have a question, it is regarding decisions, In the cockpit you do not have much of an idea of where are missiles coming from, just the RWR siren and its display. Unlike the Tacview analysis where it is quite clear that those missiles are not gonna hit you for all the reasons you have explained so well, so Is this result of experience or you actually can guess where are they coming from? Cheers! Thanks

As a new player, like the one who gets hit in the face trying to do this.. I try and use your awesome information to avoid said situations, so thank you. Unfortunetly, I get TWS locked, and can't pick him up outisde of 40km where he already has an 120 in the air, I figure this out just based off distance, and half way into my turn im getting blasted, also I'm not getting IFF info as it comes back as unknown l lot of the time, and it doesn't help at all that they are using ECM so it's really hard to keep trying to lock them, keeping them at gimble limits, figuring out how close the missle is and when it was fired as even pitbul warning goes off later than I know what to do with it, if I do I'm usually too far away for a fox 2 and stuggling between keeping him locked if I even get a chance to lock him, and do missle calculations based off of what I've already learned, Hope this becomes second nature. I, as welll as a lot of newer players still really have issues with how far the radar can actually spot contacts painted by awacs, much less lock them up past 60km.. that and i've seen you guys at 40/50km going over 300knts.. the highest I could get in the hornet was 40 and the f16 43 was it's ceiling. before losing all it's speed and manuverability, making it pretty much useless in any type of real engagement.

So what is the pitbull range of an AIM120 near the deck? I'm asking because, if you destroyed the aircraft that was painting you for that Fox 3, would it immediately go pitbull, or would it not track if it, say, had a predetermined distance to target before pitbull(ing).

My pleasure, glad you find the videos helpful. To answer your question, You need to achieve burn thru, in DCS that’s always at 22 miles so you need to reduce your altitude to 18k feet (ish) because you don’t want to get burn thru at 40k and he burns thru on you and he fires and you’re deep inside the MAR at 40k. Hope that makes sense.

I've been watching your videos for a while now and I understand the concept behind BVR strategy, but I'm curious to know if there is a different approach when engaging multiple targets. Most of your videos are 1v1, but most of the missions in DCS (especially the campaigns) have you fighting a bunch of enemies with your wingman. Do the concepts for 1v1 BVR still apply in that situation, or is there a different tactic to be used?

That S-turn GS's second-to-last AMRAAM did was a result of P/N guidance in the terminal phase and the turn reversal that the other Hornet did. I think the miss was a result of the missile going at ~1.2 mach just not quite having the G available for the intercept, maybe combined with DCS's goofy implementation of proximity fusing.

How wide is the radar beam cone of Aim120? I assume it is fixed antenna and not gimbal? To me it seems this missile in 15:15 just started tracking, turned at the target and then corrected for lead but could not pull that tight anymore. Do you find BVR more or less intense than a traditional dogfight?

Dogfights but lets just say a BVR fight get intsenser as closer you get to the enemy.

BVR, especially if the bandit has FOX 3s on its side, since those only give warnings when the seeker activates.

Whats A-Pole range on AMRAAMs in DCS? Also going out inside MAR is a good way to take a missile up the butt. Why are you so confident doing that so many times? Just curious the DCS numbers and what you're using for a lowalt AIM-120 MAR. Edit: oh youre offsetting, making it harder for him to put you on CATA and get a full WEZ.

Can you explain what cold and hot means and why it effects the missile?
@nightlight0x07cc
@nightlight0x07cc 2 жыл бұрын
It seems like hot and cold as a concept are useful at the intermediate range, where a missile could maneuver well assuming you continued towards it, but can be out run if you turn around, hence why he approaches from the gimbal limit to reduce his turn time. If you're too close, you can't outrun a missile, but you can deny its maneuvers by jamming the wez. If you're too far, the missile has plenty of distance to maneuver, but you can kill its momentum by forcing maneuvers early in its unpowered approach (cranking). As I said though I'm not an expert. I've only played the Ace Combat and IL-2 series xD This is just based on what I gleaned from watching 8 hours of this channel today .-.

@@nightlight0x07cc the things you explained i did "understand", al though after your spelling it out, its as lot cleare to me. I guess my question is just really really basic. But whats the difference between hot and cold? Its not weather you use the afterburner or not is it? I gather the missiles use radar lock not heat.. pardon if i am asking a really stupid question xD
