David Alexandrovitch that would vary greatly. Our companies daily rate was somewhere around 10k, just to show up basically. It looks like they knocked it out pretty easily, i would guess that the replacement thruster/ servicing portion of the job may be considerably more expensive.

It's slag but the guys are probably rushed. Any work in a ship yard is rushed. It's always costing somebody somewhere to keep their boats sitting. Boats make money moving. I used to work at the port in Norfolk and from the time your 12 hour shift starts till it ends you are always on the move.

i am amazed that you don't have a rolling tray but it will have a lazy L shape.. with rollers on the top of the vertical piece to roll against the top of the thruster tube and rollers at the bottom of the corner and rollers on the mid of the horizontal.. this way you could load the thruster into the middle of this sled at its reclined angle and lower the sled into the opening and have enough length to get it to slip into the hole deep enough to slip the sled in easily and roll the thruster into place with ease and not have to spend hours of time with the crane dangling it in..

Well there are two different kinds. The first is a fixed pitch propeller where the blades of the propeller are fixed and cannot be turned. And there is the second kind wherein the blades can be turned to give them different angles. Fixed pitch propellers need to be rotated in both directions to give thrist in two directions. But controllable pitch proppellers dont need reversible prime mover. They can just adjust their blade angle to give thrust in opposite directions.

It helps with the manoeuverability of a ship in restricted waters. Think sideways parking. Transverse thrust at low speeds helps the vessel move sideways.
