From what I have seen and read from different sources , youtube and other online info . Ideas have ranged from 5000-7500 miles until an oil change . I had been changing my oil and filter on my 2011 Toyota Camry for YEARS at 7500 miles . Always using an engine flush such as Amsoil / Liqui-moly . Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20 oil and Amsoil filter . Bought the car in 2013 with 20000 ? miles . Got totaled in an accident at 155000 miles . Had no mechanical issues at all , no burning oil , etc. Oil level always stayed at full between changes .

Because today's EGR-Diesel engines soot heavily, I change the oil & filter every 10,000 km, despite BMW saying that 30,000 km or 24 months. It may also explain that the timing chain hasn't started rattling yet despite the N47 having traveled more than 220,000km so far. This is just a guess
@wannabedal-adx4583 жыл бұрын
MY service manager says it's the oil filter that goes bad after 6000 miles, not the oil (if using synthetic). So BMW still having customer's do 10K miles between oil changes, he's says that BMW (and other German auto makers), "Have you on a car replacement plan, not a car maintenance plan!!" Change your oil (and filter) every 6K miles. The filter will bypass (stop filtering) after 6500-7000 miles!

Since the filter is so easy to access what about a new filter at 5k? Also heard someone smarter than I, says to use frequent fuel additive on these turbo engines to extend oil life. FWIW changed my 5.3L GM engine oil at 10k for about 150k mi. Never burned oil, kept mileage, still runs good @ 185kmi. But then again, was only hard on it when passing and rarely took joyrides. IMO if you're a reasonable owner doing mostly daily, see no reason for 5k oil changes. Of course that's assuming gas quality is decent in your area. Some places it is not so more frequent changes is required.

It really depends on the oil itself, not just "synthetic" but rather the TBN of the oil, the exact oil type, brand and viscosity, the oil capacity of the vehicle, whether turbocharged or not, how it is driven, etc. Some 10k oil changes come out looking perfect. Would I run 10k on a normally aspirated inline 6 BMW that had 10 quarts of ACEA B3/B4 0w40 oil? absolutely. Would I run 10k on a 4 cylinder turbo that had 5 quarts of oil with 0w20? No way in hell.
