Broken glass is best. The sort of glass that breaks into little squares. (safety glass is the name, although anyone that has passed through a windscreen face first would scoff at the name..) Fill the tank with a kilo or two and shake it like a Californian house during the 'big one' any remnants remaining after will not be an issue as it isn't going to rust and it isn't going to mess with the fuel system

Dead chuffed for you, all that mucking about with the tank to clean it and reseal it. You've more patience than me, I was on tenterhooks while you fired it up. Still a few jobs to do, but as you said, it's amazing what a bit of maintenance can do. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

To buy a good replacement tank for it was to much. So resealing it was my only sensible option. A long process but worth it in the end.

It was only the cost of a replacement tank being so high that made me do this normally I wouldn’t have the patience’s 😆

Did you fabricate the blanks/covers for the pump access and fuel cap? Or can you buy them?

I made them. Wasn’t very difficult. Some scrap metals and use the parts removed as templates.

Quite a convoluted process to fix the problem, but it was certainly worth it in the end. At least you explained the time scale required to do the process rather than a 'Before' & 'After' 10 second shot. Has your bruises gone down after your wife found out what you "borrowed" from her. 😆😆

I will be very interesting to see how this turns out for you buddy, as I’ve got a very small rusty spot in one of my tanks. Fortunately there’s no paint inside as I can tell. So maybe just a white vinegar treatment and your neutralising treatment to stop the flash rust effect. Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧

This was an extra long process due to the original lining but I’m really happy with the results.

How does the e10 fuel affect the sealer

Only time will tell. No issues with it so far. I don’t think it will have a negative effect on it.
