BMW 118d (F20) stock vs (real) stage 1 - 195hp / 392Nm - map switch - performance test 0 - 200km/h

After a bad stage 1 tuning (the tuner didn't upgrade the transmission and made a couple of other mistakes) I went to a BMW only tuner. Who had done an excellent job. Even with a map switch.
The test includes a 0-200km/h.
The car is F21 type model with rear wheel drive.
It's all measured with the DragRacerApp (on a Huawei Mate 20 Pro) at 19°C and on a dry tarmac road with summer tyres.

Hi, AS Performance just did a great job. In all my tunings before no one was capable doing it (on the 118d and on the 435d as well). But it's their secret how it's done. Unfortunately I can't tell. Sorry.

I'm going to purchase a 118d 2017 in Germany this week. So 1) Is it only software chip update or something else? 2) How safe is that? Won't the engine overboost, overheat or something?

It's only a software update and if done properly your engine will last as long as in stock mode. All safety features of the engine are still on (bad Tuner take them off). Just remember the warm up and cool down time and the service. It's pretty much a 120d now which almost got the same hardware.

You can be of bad luck and good luck ... even they look identical, there are 2 models of engine : B47D20O0 and B47D20U0 ... first one can go up to 190hp, second one up to ~170 hp (safe) (smaller turbine and injectors, intercooler etc.). About "how safe" ... depends on what you expect and how smart your tuner is. (This malamut's one is not super-smart, just "brute force" and "up to the max limits".) IMHO, B47D20O0 - smart tune = ~163 / 184hp. You choose. Since it basically have map switching - i would put ~163 as default (eco) and ~184hp (sport). 350nM eco, 380nM sport. If you get B47D20U0 - eco = default, Sport = ~163hp / 360nM.

Merkst du irgendetwas ab ca. 180km/h bezüglich das er die Leistung wegnimmt (Bauteilschutz)? Meiner (318d B47) optimiert auf 192PS und 402NM geht ab ca. 180km/h in den Bauteilschutz. Man merkt dass er die Leistung auf ca. 160PS drosselt.

Compare my measurements with my measurements. I'm testing in both directions. But you have a lot issues which have a effect on the test (wind, temperature, tyres/wheelsize, GPS device/App, driver...). I'm not a laboratory but I'm trying to make my own tests as compareable as possible.

@@malamutebikes1340 Use Dragy there you can see everything and its a 10Hz GPS it is lot more responsive then normal gps and you also see if you are testing on flat surfaces, temperature, level and so on, there you will see you dont get under 7 seconds with under 200hp on this maschine, but if you have a very good tuner or engine ;)

My 118d was remapped to 191bhp and I managed 6.4 secs! How was your 120d torque figure after the remap? I've noticed this seems to vary a lot, even with the same final BHP outputs

@@hazdaspaz052 thats not possible you drive downhill thats why you get this times 118d max with software only is around 190hp and 400nm tourge you never get 6.4 sec on flat surface with that power never!!!!!

No, usually even in eco mode you'll still get the whole power of the engine. In that case eco it's programmed to deliver the stock power of the engine and comfort- and Sport mode will give you the whole power. In the stock car are the big differences between these mode the throttle response, the shifting timing and the max rpm. We just used that way for the map switch because its the easiest to program and use it.

First pull in eco Pro, second in sport mode. I'm calling Bullshit on this one

It's a professional programmed mapswitch between the stock power and the remapped version. As you see the sport display is also adjusted and even in eco mode the engine would have had pulled of it's full power (but with different shifttime and throttle response) but it stops at the stock values. It would also be possible to put the map switch on another adjustement or button but that's apperently the most comfortable way. In your opninion try to explain me the different power output and drag values?

Hi, can't tell because I haven't tried it. But I suppose it's something in between 220-240 km/h (GPS). Besides the Diesel doesn't like top speed.
