I understand the cost performance/benefit argument. I think the deal is here to negotiate the BMW top case as part of your deal. Having central locking and alarm and lighting might not seem worth paying £1000/€1100 for, but when you SW Motech gets removed with a Stanley knife, it might make you regret not buying it. There’s another channel which found (and bought) the top case for £600. He fitted it himself along with the high level brake light. This is the issue with the GS/A when used for touring. It’s all manual locking and I think it depends on what sort of riding your doing as to whether you decide on soft, hard or OEM luggage….and the depth of your pockets and how brave you’re feeling when you reveal the purchase to your wife.

I forgot to add: I used the BMW large soft bag on my K1200S. It’s now about £175/€190 and I can recommend that since it’s capacity is 55litres and it’s sitting with two BMW System 6 helmets in comfortably with space for gloves and other gear. The current one is blue, and you showed a picture of the small one. Check that out if you want top quality at a lower price than the SW-Motech.

I was not prepared to pay the exorbitant price for BMW hard luggage for my RS. I went for the SHAD SH35 boxes (just panniers, no top case). They are quality items and the brushed aluminium trim suits the bike well. Also the mounting kit is well-designed and quite unobtrusive. All for less than half the price of the BMW stuff. No brainer. Thanks Scott.

Have the full set of OEM hard luggage w/liners for my R1250RS. No brainer -- an expensive bike with expensive luggage and I accept it. Lockable hard cases beat soft luggage in nearly every situation.

All depends on usage, leaving my RT parked up in Florence while I explored the city was a chore with rear soft case. Ended up finding a locker at the train station to store bag. Have a lockable hard case now.

Nice review, Scott. I have the ‘22 RT like yours. I never thought I would care for a tank bag, but finally purchased the SW Motech Daypack, and love it. So handy for sunglasses, gloves, water bottle, ear plugs, snacks, etc. SW Motech quality is evident after many months of use. Keep those RT and RT product reviews coming! Thank you.

Cheers Scott thank you for giving me the the confidence to purchase the bag as you say an overkill of storage overall but it will be good for me to put clothes in and put my camera gear in the hard luggage. Enjoying all your videos and thank you for your quick response . John

How timely, I just added some SW Motech Blaze sidebags to my new RS this week. They are sleek AND look good AND affordable. I've trusted SW Motech with crashbars on past bikes too. Two thumbs up for the review (as you say !)
@illiyakuryakin30922 жыл бұрын
Well Scott, you talked me into it. SW-Motech should know that, lol. Since I already have the SW-Motech Daypack tank bag, this Rackpack will be a good match. I plan to use this along with my Touratech dry bag to do some camping in a couple weeks. I found this Rackpack ONLY available from SW_Motech. I shopped at my local (Chicago area) Cycle Gear store where I get a discount, and online but everyone found the Rackpack “Discontinued”. Please keep your reviews of our RT’s and accessories coming. Those (And other BMW bikes) are the only reviews I am interested in 😁. Ride safe.

I am using a givi 47 with the aluminum mount on my 2023 1250 RT. Used it on my k1600 for past 4 years and still works awesome. No leaks, lots of room, looks great and no issues. Chose this instead of OEM as it is only $700 with the mount. OEM is really overpriced and you still have to paint it.

I wish I could do what you do or at least help. Im in Erfurt! Love your videos! I didn't know what SW Motech was when I moved to Germany and the same goes for Büse. I thought Büse was some kind of chain store brand like when you see food products at Edeka, Rewe or Tegut etc. But Büse and the rest are pretty good quality. SW Motech since learning about them I have always liked! Prost!

Re top boxes. Get a Givi Maxima hard case 2nd hand about 150€ which is what I did. Mint condition. You can get it painted same colour as panniers and bike if you want and still be quids in. 1100€ for a BMW top box is outrageous. Rip off!

Thank you for the review. I have the exact same RT as yours. My RT has the BMW topcase which is connected to the central locking and is water- and theftproof. Since a topcase is nothing nice to look at I rarely have it mounted. The SW-Motec bag is incredibly ugly and does not fit the good looks of the RT. I recommend to pay the extra money for the BMW topcase.

It is nice to have Options for riding; soft-pak has an advantage and disadvantage, i.e., just another soft-pak, right? if you are riding single, sure, ok, but I don't like the quick release rings or straps if you have some form of load in the bad. I don't think those thin, cheap aluminum "alloy" will endure long. If the cloth loops are strong enough, consider a stronger loop. 2nd. if I have a 2nd rider, I would not trust the strength of those loops for the same reason, as a rider sometimes likes to let go and lean against the backrest/sissy bar w/pad on a harley or a hard box/pack that is stock from BMW. Again, those loops are thin and cheap, i don't think they would hold a person for long, over time, if you are riding for comfort...as a passenger.
