I tested one a couple of weeks back. Yes the 13 is (maybe) a bit quicker when extended but that isn`t my riding style nor is it the reason folk generally buy GS`s. The 13 engine is rough, coarse and does not feel refined at all - the engine sound is dreadful with a cacophony of rattles knocks and whines, the exhaust note muted. It sounds like a neglected push-along lawnmower. I`ve been on two 13`s and both had poor gearbox feel. Not an inspiring experience at all. The suspension is too firm - it`s an adventure bike not a sports bike. Overall it felt rather clincal and inert lacking in any character. I am really surprised at all the reviews saying how much better it is. I was interested in what i thought of my 1250 when i got back on it and can honestly say i much prefered it - smoother, quieter, better throttle feel and with a lovely pop and burble on the overrun which the 13 does not have. Overall the 1250 just feels `friendlier` and is much more of a comfortable, rounded pleasant ride that just feels `right` When you consider the cost to change it`s a no from me, i`m keeping my 1250. And then there`s the 13`s looks.......

Interesting video. It literally took me years after several test rides to click with a Boxer engine given I was riding four cylinder bikes for years. BMWs seemed like tractors. And then unbelievably wanting to change my bike seeing a 1200GS in a local dealers without a test ride I brought it. As I rode away from the dealer I just clicked with it and loved it. Over recent years I have traded GS in for various other Adventure bikes CrossTourer. Tiger1050 and more recently Pan America nothing wrong with any of them but they just weren't a GS and lacked its character. I would love to have a 1250 or 1300GSA but age and finances tells me its not going to happen so I am happy on my 1200. Like you I don't do many miles each year other than a week in France each year. As for the look of the 1300GSA I quite like it and I think its the same has the Pan America in that it looks better in the flesh than in any photo's I have seen of it. You now have a new Sub.

Excellent sum up - I am in exactly the same position as you. On my 4th GSA, latest is 23 plate triple black. 5 -7k to trade up maybe but not that amount you were quoted. I did try a Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally earlier in the year. Gorgeous looking bike with big service intervals - but did not give me that wow factor to warrant paying 27k. Plus it did sound like a sewing machine - not what I expected. All first world problems though. Nice one
@TheramblinmanTRMАй бұрын
Barry thanks for your feedback and did think the deal would have been better probably would be if I went elsewhere. The salesman was a good guy but the guy behind the salesman I think was banking on significant demand even saying he’ll get buyers ringing from Motorcycle Live when they see the bike - so my guess is he thought I’d already committed come what may what the cost was - which in fairness was me historically 😂. He clearly read me wrong or they are ringing him up right now 😊. Interested in your feedback on the Ducati - as you say I love the look of the bike and must test ride one - I have the view I’m going to totally agree with you. Stick for the time being. I’ll likely change my 23 GSA in a couple years time. Maybe for the 1300GSA or possibly the new 1390 SAS from KTM. I think your feeling about ‘significant’ power and acceleration improvements between the 1250 and 1300 boxer are largely illusory. There are various side by side tests of the 1250 and 1300 GS online - acceleration wise, there’s nothing in it. In fact, the 1250 is slightly quicker 0-100kph and also in top gear roll on. The 1300GSA is a very nice machine for sure, but let’s not get too carried away with performance differences (4% more torque and 8% more power).

Thanks for the video. This new GSA is what the wonders of evolution do, bringing beautiful novelties in our direction. The engine of the new GS generation is fantastic and now IMO ahead again, of the direct competition, the bike is powerful and agile for the weight it carries. It’s proper fast with this new engine! But I have to say that your bike looks very sharp well equipped and still is like a child . So, to trade it now would be, I guess, a serious pain. 10.000 miles on the odometer is nothing on this type of machine. I know that all the new tech is tempting. The ASA is very good and on a bike like this makes every sense, with the luggage and passenger would be a great benefit to the relax of the ride, plus the adaptive cruise control with the blind spot monitoring device, are undoubtedly important upgrades to comfort and security, for longer rides or when going through the city traffic. These are precious electronics aids. The question is, looking at the speed how technology is evolving , manufacturers will keep on improving every year their machines and we can be sucked into that money drain if we don’t stabilize when odds still favor us 🤔 That’s just a thought . Thanks for confirming that the new GSA 1300 is worth it!

Seems like a nice bloke, seems like a sensible bloke but that last 5 minutes totally summarises the sadness of motorcyclist and their thinking these days. He's got a cracking bike and rather than think about where he'd go on it, be route planning, trip planning or actually going somewhere of interest and enjoying it, he's thinking through PCP deals, how to justify a pointless change of machine and all because BMW have released the next part of their 10 year rolling plan to change models. The answer is, when you've got between 80 and 100k on the clock and there's the potential you might need to spend a bit of money on it (and it will only be the potential), then consider a change. Enjoy and ride what you've got and ignore what the marketing boys tell you that you need.
