@@timbob1145 it’s a great car! Very happy with it. Comfortable, great cruiser and straight line performance when you want it and easy to drive. Doesn’t fair too badly on economy either. Steering feel isn’t very sharp, which was a common thing from many reviews I’ve watched, but it’s not an outright sports car anyway. Enjoy your collection and first drive, hope you also enjoy it 👍🏻

Good video enjoyed that. Depends on what type of driver the M3 owner might be. If its just a mile muncher and wants a quick engine for an everyday car then yes I could see this being a replacement for that type of person. But if they want the finest and adjustability to drive down a nice country road or out on track then the M3 has it covered bin quite a few areas. However, having driven one today, i thoroughly enjoyed it, slightly nose led balance handling wise but overall very competent great all rounder. Would make an excellent tow car for me.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s not the pure drivers car any rear wheel drive BMW is, including the M3, but on a wet day when you just want to make rapid progress it’s a serious thing. Now the M3 has an xdrive option it’s a bit interesting but it’s now an £80k car!! Nice though

I’ve had a few of the 335d’s in the E and F series, I eventually settled with a 2016 F31. I had mine Hartge tuned by Birds BMW to 374bhp (at the wheel) when it was 9 months old and it’s never missed a beat, I also put £2.5k down on Bilstein suspension to lower it as the X Drives sit hideously high on standard suspension and the ride is too floaty to hammer properly, rarely have I ever been beaten by anything. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned. My advice to anyone in the second hand market look for an F series 335d - don’t even look at one that doesn’t have a full BMW service history, the service intervals are too long as standard and if the maintenance isn’t 100% on point it will get expensive real quick. My second tip would be about spec, because the base price was so high many are under spec’d, the base models look pants and don’t feel particularly refined. Also consider the both diff’s want servicing at 50k, the transfer box and the gearbox wants doing 60-70k and the cam chain needs doing at 100k which is about £2k as the chain is at the back of the engine near the bulkhead and the gearbox has to come off again and be serviced.
@thatcarnutsguy Жыл бұрын
Sounds like good advice. I’ve been considering a suspension change as it has got worse with age I think, it never was great. I know birds have now developed their own suspension set up which sounds well rated. There are various cheaper options such as a spring change which doesn’t seem like it would fix the issue but apparently stock shocks are ok, with the age of mine it makes more sense to change both. It bothers me that bmw service schedules don’t touch the gearbox but will shortly get mine done elsewhere as the main dealer won’t do it. Didn’t think about diffs but makes sense if they are serviceable, I think they’ve got a bit noisier over time. I’ve always reached the service mileage in under a year and felt that was ok based on motorway miles but the last one was getting over a year due to lack of use and it felt wrong to me, just didn’t seem as smooth, maybe it was all in my head but mechanical sympathy dictated that I got it done early.

Thanks for the feedback. To be honest I’ve never felt it needed more power and wanted it to last as long as possible. I’ve always thought it needed tweaks in the steering/suspension and brakes department before more power. Enjoy your 335d!

Define beater? As a comfy mile muncher year round, maybe. As a drivers care definately not. The M just feels more special and alive. The 335d can never compete on that level.
@thatcarnutsguy2 жыл бұрын
Fair point, can’t remember if I defined what I meant in the vid. The proper m cars are clearly sharper things to drive, what I really meant was for much less money and better economy it’s 9/10ths the performance and on a wet day probably beats it down the road but not necessarily as good to drive. Now the M3 has an xdrive option that’s all changed. Would still love a proper m car!

I had thought about just going back to a better runflat, something like a PS4, as it would be a total pain even having to stop on half of our motorways nowadays. When I handed it back with two new tyres he just said “oh yeah it had a screw in and I just kept topping it up” thanks for the heads up 😂

Tricky one to answer, it depends on purchase price, interest rates, term and deposit. There are a few calculators out there to help do some examples, certainly carwow has a pcp calculator if you can get an idea of residual prices, and most banks have a loan calculator. It's a good excuse to look at cars on autotrader and do some numbers.

Not yet, touch wood. It’s spent a lot of time doing long journeys daily so probably optimal conditions to avoid any. I notice when it does a DPF regen, the engine gets extra smooth when it’s throwing lots of fuel in, and obviously the fans stay on when you switch it off and you can tell the exhaust is HOT! Sounds like it’s been flat out when it has only been pottering!
