I like your videos Sean. I'm a new 335i owner, I used to have an S13 200SX where I did all the work myself but I'm an absolute noob to the N54. Thanks for the videos!

Excellent video. I am going to replace my PCV valve after watching this. I was originally told that I had to replace the entire valve cover to fix PCV issue. I'm glad I did not do that as that part costs about $250. I am having oil consumption issues that cause me to add a qt of oil every 3-4 thousand miles. I know this sounds good for a BMW but no car should consume qts of oil and be considered normal. I have the N54 in my 08 535 and it was consuming oil from the moment I got it. All leaks have been fixed including the valve cover gasket and the dreaded oil pan gasket which was murder in and of itself. I was consuming a qt of oil every 1500 miles prior to the leak repairs I mentioned. Thinking after all that the engine would stop consuming oil period but I was wrong. I hope this pcv valve thing solves my issue. I do experience rough startups in the summer then engine smooths out as I drive. That may be a result of a bad PCV valve and/or PCV breather hose which I am also going to replace. Thanks for the info

Installed my RB Valve today and did not have to remove the fuel line. I put the new valve in and then fed the cover back under and over the valve and tightened. Also did not have to removed the adjacent tube connector.

I too didn't have to remove my fuel line. I was just really patient with it turning it in. The RB valve works great 👍

thanks for the video. I just did mine, a half inch wrench was a little too snug on mine, i used a 14mm or 13mm, i forget. I had to do a little sanding to get mine to fit. I think rob beck said may or may not be required to sand to fit when it originally came out. I have an '09 but a newer valve cover/pcv 30k miles on it. 90k on the car. i could only find the correct cut out socket for the fuel line from snap on online and it was like $38 so i just used a 14mm wrench. I saw some cutoffs online but it looked like they were only wide enough for wires.

Hi my n54 is smoking after getting new turbos and downpipes. I installed an oil catch can and the smoke went away for 2 days but now its back? Can I upgrade the pcv valve and run a catch can please get back to me asap thank you.
@F82_6 жыл бұрын
I just installed a new PCV valve since my car has 125k, I just did it for maintenance. You don’t need to disconnect the fuel rails, instead take off the crankcase valve, the black hose that’s right next to it. And to remove the old PCV just grab some long pliers instead of the drill bill

some diy show them trimming the valve cap to fully push down the valve. Is this necessary? I noticed you didnt do it

I have an 09 335i and just did the catless down pipe and secondary cat delete. After driving the car for about 20 minutes I noticed some smoke coming from the exhaust. could the pcv valve cause this? it doesn't smoke all the time, just under light cruising. Also the car only has 67K+ miles.

I have an insane amount of smoke blowing out of my passenger side exhaust on my 2008 335i. When the Pcv fails, does it dump oil into cylinder number 5? Assuming that would be the passenger side turbo/ Exhaust? Any info would be helpful!

Oil consumption on my 128K mile n54 is up to at least 1qt every 1500 miles. Just replaced this valve and vent tube. But, I think the turbos are starting to fail.
@natereihanian98257 жыл бұрын
have you replaced your valve cover gasket ? I have the same problem and found out thats why i am leaking 1 qt every 1-1.5k miles as well. Check your exhaust pipes and see if you have black sut build up on your tips. Big indicator
@jimmybraden33347 жыл бұрын
Yep, 2x. -not leaking. Just goes out pipe - depends on how its driven. Sometimes .25 quart every 200 miles.. sometimes 300m Its really always had black buildup on ext. Been boosted for most the 9yrs
@wck040067 жыл бұрын
why would valve cover gasket make oil leak out your exhaust? Not attacking you, just very curious to your explaination. Thanks
@mi16t6 жыл бұрын
William Kutz he meant that the turbos or pcv or both are bad and that's why its consuming oil. The valve cover is a separate oil leak, and most likely accounts for a lot of oil loss too

Good video i have an 08 335i people always saying you have to change the headgasket because the pcv valve is incorporated into the headgasket, i noticed i changed my headgasket now i get a whistling noise at cold start up, i know for sure i have a vacuum leak in the brake booster would that cause the noise? It does go away after driving the car for about ten minutes and doesn't come back unless the cars cooled down
@SeanS546 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sorry not sure about the whistling noise. If it's a vacuum leak it would be constant not just with a cold engine. Double check your work and see if there's any codes.
@mi16t6 жыл бұрын
JAKESTEED most likely your VALVECOVER gasket is leaking as well. People are right, the pcv is integrated into the valvecover, thankfully they make aftermarket valves. Oem, you'd have to change the valvecover as it only comes with it
@rezer1st6 жыл бұрын
I just pulled it out towards the firewall. There was plenty of room to do that. Also, reinserted the new valve from the firewall, wnd when i got it in place i just put the cap on the valve then screwed it back in :) easy enough.

Seriously, does the PCV Valve just come out like that?? I've tried pulling now for 15 minutes and all I do is slip with the pliers and I feel like I'm having a pretty tight grip... How is it connected? Is it pushed into some hole? Can it be stuck??
@SeanS547 жыл бұрын
Yes it comes out quite easily. It's "held" in place with a rubber gasket. Did you try the drill bit track to give your pliers more grip?
@SergeiFedorov777 жыл бұрын
SeanS54 OK, I removed the fuel line and that gave me possibility to get a much better angle and grip. I would say it was stuck pretty good but without the fuel line I could apply enough pressure. Also, I bought the RB pcv valve cover replacement but just couldn't get it to thread correctly so eventually I reused the oem cover. Great video once again explaining the steps! But if you're inexperienced like me I would call it a 4 hour job ☺️ So to all noobs like me, don't be overly optimistic about the time frame for this.
