Yeah. Just put a shop towel paper to verify. And try to clean as much oil as possible from around the valve cover to see if you can find the exact area where the oil is leaking. Good luck bro

Good job it was my pcv o ring too. I did my valve cover on the engine stand and once the engine ran in the car with new turbos and all new gaskets I was stumoed on why the back cylinders had oil. It caused the coils to back out as well.

Excellent video and great info to look for this first. On my 2008 335XI Dual Turbo: I have an oil leak and I assumed it is my valve cover gasket and it is at the rear of the engine in the general area where you pointed out. Oil is dripping on to the exhaust manifold. I am hoping it is the same O Ring gasket you mentioned as I really don't feel like going through all the steps for the valve cover gasket repair if it is not needed. Great info to look for first! Also take a look at the alignment of that crankcase vent hose. When installing an oil catch can, the hose from the catch can can pull on this connection an misalign the hose (making it leak). Of course this only applies if you have an oil catch can lol.

@@CrazyCarMods I don't know if I have an oil catch can as I never worked on the N54 engine yet. (I used to drive an E34). Where do I look and how do I recognize it? Thanks again. Phil

Cool 😎. It’s kinda hard to explain and for you to understand, but take a look at this video. On min 6 is the crack case hose piece that I’m talking about that needs to be aligned. And on minute 10 is the hose that connects to that crank case hose to the oil catch can. In this video you will see why it is a good idea to install an oil catch can if your interested. My car is dripping oil too and I Have or replace the cover gasket … I will have to do it my self I hope the engine is not damaged .. I have had si many problems with this beautiful car sad it only has 87 000 but at 50 it started to have issues 2010 335i
@CrazyCarMods2 жыл бұрын
These cars have issues with various gaskets. Valve cover gaskets, oil housing gasket, oil pan gasket, some have rear main seal or main seal issues which those are like gaskets too SMH. So having a leaky valve cover gasket is pretty much normal with this cars. It’s part of regular maintenance. Before replacing your valve cover gasket, Check to make sure that your valve cover itself is not cracked or damaged. Hopefully is not 🤞. If it is, then you need to replace those at the same time, to avoid doing the work twice. The valve cover gasket itself is only about $30. The expensive part is the labor. If you can do the work yourself that would be best. Also make sure your car has has oil at all times. It is better to clean up any oil residue within your engine and then pin point to see where the leak is coming from. I also have a DIY on replacing the valve cover gasket, where I go into high detail on everything that you need to do. Hope that helps

My 335xi is spraying white smoke from the exhaust and it just started today think im gonna try this out to see if thats the problem or if its the vcg
@CrazyCarMods3 жыл бұрын
When there excessive white smoke coming out from the exhaust pipes, there is usually 2 things that come to mind. One is a bad PCV valve and the other is your turbos. My suggestion is to replace your pcv valve asap, and don't drive your car much or push your car. When there is a bad pcv valve, there is excessive pressure withing the crankcase/engine, and if that pressure can't go anywhere; it will damage your gaskets. And can create oil leaks. It is because of this N54s have issues with gaskets and oil leaks. Cross fingers its not your turbos. 🤞
@mattarthurs35719 ай бұрын
I just recently did my valve cover gasket and now my vehicle is ticking very loudly and oil smoke is coming from the back of the engine. Would the PCV system cause this? I do believe something might have cracked from removing/putting back together. Or do you think the gasket has bound and needs to be put back into place? Thanks.

Mine leaks only in high rpm under load. Other than that can’t tell where it’s leaking but it’s drenching the top of my hood
@CrazyCarMods3 жыл бұрын
The top of your hood? Thats the first time i hear about this one. To make it to your hood, that oil definitely has pressure. Take a close look at the valve cover. Sometimes the crack looks like a hair line, and its barely noticeable. Use a good flash light when inspecting. If the oil leak is coming from the front of the engine towards the driver's side then there's a big chance is your oil filter housing. And if that's where the Oil leak is at, then replace that gasket asap. Also clean the oil residue and replace your serpentine belt.
@CrazyCarMods3 жыл бұрын
Where is the Oil leak by? Towards which part of the hood you see the oil?
@luideluna89773 жыл бұрын
@@CrazyCarMods I pinpointed it to the front, what’s happening is it’s spraying to the fan and the fan is blowing it to the top. Question- can my vanos solenoids leak oil? The leak is coming from the front valve cover section or vanos solenoids. I ordered a set of gaskets since they were cheap going to try that first and if not then it’s valve cover or valve cover gasket
@CrazyCarMods3 жыл бұрын
Yes those gaskets can definitely leak since they can get dry and lose their seal due to the heat from the engine. The vanos solenoids work as a valve through high oil pressure to adjust timing of the valves. Sp the leak in that section can be a big possibility yet Its not as common as the valve cover gasket. When you replace the gaskets you might as well give a clean to the solenoids. Also to double and triple check, look at your oil housing gasket from underneath, its hard to see just by looking so use a small mirror, like the ones dentist use but a little bigger. I want to point it out so you can be 100% sure there is no leaks coming from there, since if the serpentine belt brakes (one cause can be expensive oil leaks touching it) it can cause severe damage. Some people has messed up the whole engine because of a broken serpentine belt. So just make sure. Hopefully its just those small vanos solenoid gaskets. Good luck 👍
@luideluna89773 жыл бұрын
@@CrazyCarMods Got an update! Turned out to be the orings on the vanos solenoids! I did an engine swap on mine myself in my garage and when I switched the vanos solenoids from one engine to the other I did not add the O-ring gaskets! I ordered new vanos solenoids because I think now they are a little messed up. But that fixed the problem so it can definitely leak from there as well!
