The BMW 4 Series is an upmarket coupe that has been designed to be more stylish and fun to drive than the BMW 3 Series saloon on which it’s based.
The new facelifted two-door 4 Series Coupe sits in a family of 4 Series models, that also includes a convertible and a five-door Gran Coupe model, with the BMW i4 providing an electric version of the regular 4 Series Coupe.
The 4 Series is a strikingly good looking car. Its sporty body kit and sloping roofline give it a justified kerb appeal. Inside, the levels of quality are much better than the equivalent Mercedes models.
The BMW’s 4 series infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Theres seating for four people and those in the front seats will have all the space they need. The rear seats are fine for legroom, even for adults, with easy access for getting in and out of the back, plus there's a large 440 litre boot, ample room for a few suitcases, only slightly smaller than an Audi A5’s and way bigger than the Mercedes C-Class Coupe’s.
There’s lots of engine choice, and there isn’t a bad one. There's a 2.0-litre and a 3.0-litre petrol powerplant ranging from 184hp to 374hp. If you want the best bang for your buck, then the M440i has the more powerful six-cylinder engine with some startling performance statistics including a sub four second 0-62mph.
All BMW 4 Series models are huge fun to drive. They’re lower and stiffer than a BMW 3 Series, and turn into corners with more agility than an Audi A5 or a Mercedes C-Class. The xDrive all-wheel drive system is standard on the M440 models for added security in slippery conditions, plus BMW offers things like upgraded brakes, a sports differential and adaptive suspension to really spice things up.
That agility does mean the 4 Series feels harder over bumps in town, even in its most comfortable driving mode, but otherwise, its standard parking sensors and rear camera make light work of parking. On the motorway, the 4 Series cruises quietly, however, BMW’s clever adaptive cruise control with lane-keep steering assist costs a fortune to add as part of a pack.
The BMW 4 Series has a RRP range of £42,745 to £58,235 with monthly payments starting from £540. The price of a used BMW 4 Series starts from around £30,999.

I just took delivery of M240 xdrive. OTR price is £15k cheaper than the M440 despite it being almost identical in spec and size. The M440 does come with an electric boot lid though 😊

Great review as always! i'm currently deciding between this and the much loved M340i, i'm finding it hard to find a direct comparison between the two, plenty of reviews for each, but no head-to-head videos etc. Don't suppose you have any thoughts on how the two compare? I know the 4 is just the 3 with 2 doors, so it should feel pretty much the same when driving, same engine, wheelbase, very similar in size etc. Are there any noticable differences between them? Like ride quality, noise isolation, comfort and such
