Excellent presentation. I purchased a 1 owner e39 525i recently after 3 years of near daily driving a e34 525i, both automatics. Both are well sorted mechanically and with the suspension. I hit on your site while seeing what comparison information on handling I could find on the two cars. I had heard so much about e39's, I had to try one out. Great highway cruiser, but it doesn't have that feel I have come to feel in the e34. Ergonomically, I like it better. The low center arm rest on the e39 is a waste of space. Techwise, there is no tangible improvement (if I want gadgets I have an 05 Phaeton). The ride comfort is much more relaxed while still handling curves with that little push you can give it when coming out of the bend. I'm in my 60's, so the e34 styling has my vote, but not my great nephew's. The e39 is a better, more modern car in every aspect. Still, give me my e34. Maybe in time, I will come to build a better passion for the e39. All that said, thank you for a great side by side comparison.

Had both these cars and loved them both! Each one has it's own character and quirks, but both are great to drive with wonderful 6cyl and slick manual box. I have to give the overall win to the E39 for how much better packaged the interior is, and how much more comfort and spec you get for your money. It really was the perfect all rounder. Just the right amount of tech, luxury and performance, but nothing excessive or unnecessary. A very classy and high quality car. I do still love the looks of the E34 though, especially as a wagon, with the facelift wide grille... Very good looking family car!

Same impression i had when comparing E30 318is with E46 325ti , with E30 you know the limits, gives more feedback an due to light weight is more agile .
