Depends, if the car you are aiming for have all the rubber seals in good condition it should be quite quiet. Do not compare E39 3.0D engine to a modern 2015 year of production car when it comes to fuel efficiency , noise or vibrations. For obvious reasons E39 will lose to Octavia from 2018. But if your budget is limited and E39 is one of the options you have - sure go for it but spend extra money on car verification to avoid huuuge spendings on engine repairs (common rail, turbo< other leaks).

@@muldix I would love to get one but they do rust. I don't like the newer ones due to all the complicated crap that can and will go wrong on them. It's a shame they didn't have better corrosion protection at the time.

@@derbigpr500 First of all its a joke. But if you wanna go down that route... The M series engines were awesome. After that everything went downhill. N series had constant timing chain issues, high pressure fuel pump issues, injectors, carbon buildup, turbo charge pipe, plastic intakes cracking, turbos blown, you name it.

Heyyy man , I watch the video and I loved itt. I live in spain and I'm really considering buying an e39 530d 193 hp, I have so maany questions for you bro, like would you prefer manual or automatic, how does the engine feel at low rpm 5 if you put your foot down at 1300 rpm for example), maan I'm really millimiters close from getting one but still have doubts, some tell me I shoud get the 530d e60 218hp, as the difference is really huge, soem others say the 525d 163hp e39..... I do'nt know what to do lol, My heart says M5 which of course I cant afford but my brain would probably settle for a 520d which I hate ( in e39 at least, in e60 it sounds bad but it goes better°. man any tips you have I'll be glad to hear. Nice car btw and drive safe!

​@@existenz_svk2639 AHoj tu mas par mojich skusenosti , mal som dve E 39 530d v automate vo full vybave (sluzobne) po sebe na kazdej som dal cca 500 000 km, su to vynikajuce auta s famoznym povdozkom, kazdopadne servis a starostvlivost potrebuju. E 39 530d je citlivy na olej (15.000 km max.) a to i v prevodovke ( max 35 000-40 000km) a samozrejme vsetky filtre k tomu. Automat s tymto motorom to znasa na hrane, 500 Nm je na prevodovku az az. Ked chces mat radost z jazdy musis mat i na servis tak to je a ten kto hovori ze sa to nekazi tak klame alebo najazdi na E 39 len malo km.. Spotrebne veci ako su naplne, dosticky, kotuce, stabilizatori atd. jedine origo inak ti ide o zivot (origo veci su vacsinou z ineho materialu a vydrzia tu zataz na ktoru su navrhnute, nahrady neviem z coho robia ale nikdy nevydrzali skoro nic). Veci ako strekovace, vysokotlakove cerpadlo, turbo atd. su celkom draha zalezitost. Ak budes jazdit tak ako sa na E39 530d patri a sem tak jej nalozis a to jej das urcite (nie jak debil brzda plyn), tak ta to auto bude tesit a to velmi. AK myslis ze to bude akoze lacne a nejak to budes servisovat po kamosoch tak zabudni na to auto, tak to urcite nebude, boli to drahe auta svojho casu, a podstatne nahradne diely su drahe stale. Do dohoto auta ziadna nahrada alebo druhovyroba nepatri inak ti ide o zivot to som uz pisal vyssie. Dobry mechanik a to myslim vazne na E 39 sa hlada tazko, prosim ta zabudni na garazovych menicov a skladacov ze robia i BMW. Presiel som s autami vsetky servis BMW na SK a jediny kde tomu naozaj niekto rozumeli je tim v BMW Zilina. Rozpisal som sa az moc, ale to auto som mal moc rad, ziadne ine potom uz mi neurobilo taku radost. Takze zhrniem to, ak to myslis s autom vazne tak to bude drahe, pokial neviservisujes vsetko co bolo zanedbane majitelmi pred tebou. To auto sa uz teraz nekupuje rozumom ale srdcom a ta laska uz nieco stoji :), caf a stastnu ruku pri vybere.

Ja by som e39 chcel srdcom lebo ja milujem šoférovanie ale zároveň aj na každodenné použitie a nestaral by som sa o to len tak po garážach lebo mam ešte teraz 2010 opel astru h a tam mi pokazili výmenu dverí že nesedí zámok a ešte chceli strašne peniaze pritom to je jednoduché na výmenu, ale sám by som na to nervy nemal robiť, takže rozumiem co myslíš :D Premýšľal som aj nad inými ale žiadne ma takto nenadchlo a nezaujalo ako e39. Diky :p :)

Yet the big ass diesel buses and trucks and still allowed to drive around...which by the way, pollute more in a day of driving than a diesel car does in a month of driving. Car pollution is IRRELEVANT in the big scheme, compared to some other things. The lawmakers and politicians are just fucking retards who are too incompetent to put pressure on those who really cause the most pollution (and also because it makes them more money), instead they attack the small people and their cars. It's the same as punishing people who don't pay taxes once, and the politicians are allowed to steal billions and nobody bats an eye. Yea, lets ban all the diesel cars because they cause like 10% more pollution than an equivalent petrol car does, and lets put aside all the advantages of such diesel cars... that's a good solution.. in the minds of retards. The worst part is that all these anti-diesel campaigns started in america, where 99% of people never even drove a proper diesel car...all the diesels they have there are big trucks with freaking tractor engines and a few normal cars with older generation diesel engines that are nowhere near as good as modern ones are. They were told lies by their government that used the campaign to badmouth Audi, VW and other european car makers because they were taking too much of their market and american brands were doing badly. They have no idea about diesel engines, they're full of ignorance and fantasies about them, so they hate them, typical for americans to jump to conclusion about things they know nothing about. Now we in Europe, who know the advantages and how good the diesel engines can be, have to pay consequences of their stupidity and ignorance.

@@derbigpr500 they are not incompetent, they are just pure evil. they know that diesel engines are getting very popular due to their durability and economy of fuel, and that the diesel itself is usually cheaper. this way the will force us to buy new or petrol cars, that have more issues and require more money for maintenance. the transportation is not even close to the industry when we are talking about air pollution. the goddamn coal based powerplants and thousands of factories are the real issue, not the damn cars. they could make laws to force people to clean their old engines and use better ctalyzers and filters, it could solve a lot of problems...
