The reality if your daily commute is 40 miles per day as mine then literally you put some petrol in once a month and in UK charging on overnight tariff it’s very cost effective..especially as a company car.

Great review. 520d touring sounds interesting depending on pricing. Much prefer the chrome grill rather than black plastic.

I have a 4-year old G20 330e plug-in hybrid. I love it! I hardly ever use petrol. The realistic range on a daily basis is around 35km, which is more than enough for my daily commute. If the 530e manages 80-100 km, this would be amazing! Driving on battery alone is fabulous - so quiet and smooth. And for long trips, the petrol engine is great. Plenty of power.

Any idea why BMW are only bringing the 520d to Ireland in the touring option Nobby? Some other countries with right hand drive cars are getting the 520d saloon option. For example, saw a new model 520d saloon review a day ago from a South African car reviewer.

530e M-Sport in Ireland is 80k currently. Hard to guess will they pitch the 520d below the 520i. In years gone by, they would have. Now, who knows!

Most people are gonna have this as a company car so the price difference makes no diff. The Benefit in Kind tax difference (between the 520i and 530e) is substantial

I don't know where BMW Ireland is getting their numbers but unless just a few were sold, near every last model 5 I see was a 520D as business can reclaim vat on diesel and near all 5 buyers (even if near all are leasing) are business who do reclaim. The number of ancient 520D UK imports here is endemic. Saw a new 5 from the back yesterday. Bit tank like and does not scream BMW5. Maybe better at night. Still would prefer an M5 touring if big lotto win arrived. Seen a few 530e touring here (last model). Will there be an i5 touring or just more SUVs.

€10,000 different to get a PHEV …. !!!! Why oh why is there such a massive difference. €10,000 is a lot of fuel. Glad it handles well and lovely colour. Look forward to the next one Nobby.

It seems to have come down now actually. About 3k extra for the M-Sport and 6 for the M-Sport Pro (dampers).

I much prefer the interior of my 2021 530e msport. That dash in the g60 is featureless, bland and too tesla like with the big screen stuck on. Thanks for a great review.

The old model was much much much nicer designed inside AND out, and when quality is down, removed features like opening back glass on the touring, introduction of cheap hard plastic inside and ugly screens well 99% of everyone is very disappointed.

I’m told by owners of PHEV that they go through tyre wear a lot. Have you experienced this? I have a 520D 4 yr old and it’s a super car. Totally confused on what the change it for so I’m just going to keep it and drive on. Lovely colour on that 539e though 😊

Depends on the tyre. Stick to BMW * rated and they last a long time

I have a 330e, and in my experience, coming from a 328i, my tyre usage is similar, although I expected an increase due to the car being heavier. One thing that I didn't expect (but makes sense if you think about it) is the brake usage. By now I would have changed at least the brake pads on my old car, but mine still have plenty of life in them.

I’ve owned a few G30 and G31 5 series and have a 530e Touring now which has the adaptive dampers. It’s a 23 model and is the first one that doesn’t have run flats. Also it’s on 19’s so very comfortable overall.

The reason they are dropping the price is because the all electric bmw have been a sales disaster. The 5 series in general has been a disaster . People don’t like me marketing deciding what they can or cannot buy. Hot tip, dropping the split tail gate on the Touting is a big mistake!!
