BMW 535i Intercooler Install

I finally got around to installing the new and larger front mount intercooler for the 535xi. This is more of a vlog than a DIY, but if you're looking for some guidance, this video may help as well. I'll also try to get the 1/4 mile racing videos done as well. Let's just say this intercooler + MHD Stage 2 + made a huge difference in 1/4 mile time.

It's definitely an upgrade from stock! However, at even 18psi, I found out it rises nearly 30 degrees on a pull, which is no good. It might be great for someone on stock turbo only going to around 15psi, but any higher than that, I'd recommend a PSP 600ic. They make one specifically that fits this car. I plan on making an upgrade video this Summer when the car is all back together.

Hey I have a e60 535i running mhd stage 1. What are the extra stuff did you have to get to allow the cool side to fit correctly

All I used was the silicone coupler from the VRSF charge pipe kit and the stock lower charge pipe since the ebay one didn't fit at all. Personally after getting a custom tune and seeing all the logs, I can't recommend this intercooler. It's better than stock, but anything over 16psi on stock turbos will be too much for this intercooler. I'd suggest going with a VRSF 7" or PSP 600. The PSP is made specifically for the 535i as well.

Foul News ok thank you I live in Florida it gets extremely hot down here. The car is Daily, not planning to do any track are aggressive driving just wanted to know if it was better than the stock IC

how'd you relocate the oil cooler

vinny santos I just moved it up a bit and zip tied it onto an AC line or whatever was up there. Just make sure the cooler lines have no stress on them.

Can you tell me which intercooler you purchased from eBay. I only ones that are for the 335. I have a 535 like you, still an N54 engine.

I bought a Rev 9 ebay intercooler. However it's junk and I don't recommend it at all. I believe VRSF makes one that fits better and performs much better.

The trans cooler where did u reroute it to and mount it to

It's just mounted above the intercooler with zip ties to the power steering cooler.

@@davidburton7403 Nice! Unfortunately not. The 2011 has an N55 motor, whereas 2006 - 2010 is an N54. If you have Facebook, join the "N5X Enthusiasts (N54, N55, N52)" group. It's full of valuable info that will be great to have once you get your car.

I would recommend the PSP 600ic or VRSF intercooler. Both of them have kits that fit these cars directly. The one in this video is absolute junk and I would not recommend it at all.

What charge pipe with bov do you recommend for my e60? I want a ebay one but everyone says the 335i charge pipe doesn’t fit my 535i :(

I have a VRSF Charge pipe with an HKS SSQV 4 on mine. I've heard that the VRSF 335d Charge pipe fits better. This one does fit, but it hits the power steering fluid reservoir.

Did you trim the plastic pieces on the oil cooler?

I didn't have to touch the oil cooler for this. I only had to relocate the transmission cooler and cut away part of the stock intercooler bracket.

Whats the 1/4 mile time ?

On failing stock twins, the best 1/4mi time I had was 12.49 @ 109mph. I'm currently installing upgraded twins, a 535lph low pressure fuel pump, throttle body injection and a few other goodies. I couldn't recommend this one. At anything above 15psi it's total junk and IATs will rise more than 30° on a pull. I'd recommend a VRSF or PSP intercooler. They make them specifically for the 535's now.

Hey good video. How id the intercooler holding up? I have an MHD and xHP Tuned 2009 535xi and looking for the next mod. Not a lot of options for inexpensive intercoolers for E60s. Was this specifically made for the 535 or for the 335?

Wow, I'm super late to this one, not sure how I missed it, sorry! This intercooler isn't specifically made for this car, but is a bit better than stock, up to about 15psi on stock turbos, after that the temps rise too quickly. I'd recommend getting the PSP 600ic, which is made specifically for the 535 and will be good up to and over 600hp.
