BMW Audio Does Not Work

My 135i experiencing audio difficulties. This is a random problem, happening 2/5 times; sometimes it works perfectly for a week, sometimes, it doesn't work at all for a few days in a row. Took it into BMW, but they couldn't replicate the problem to get any error codes.
The video isn't well choreographed as it's more or less just me showing everything possible to get the radio to play and explaining as I go. This particular time was on my way to work; going to/from work is the biggest hassle: sitting in traffic with no radio to keep me company in the morning.
Sometimes, exiting the car, locking it, waiting for a while, and then unlocking the car and trying again will solve the problem. Never, will turning off the car, and starting it again solve the problem.

Finally! Info on this exact issue is so hard to find. I have literally the EXACT same issue. I see you brought it in for a software update, I'll give that a shot and post if I have any success with that. My BMW Professional stereo has been turning on and off during the drive, and I swear sometimes it's affected by temperature or bumps. But it does the thing you're showing at start up as well - where the stereo is clearly powered up, it just doesn't want to cooperate in terms of audio features. I've got an E82 128i. I'll come back with an update.

Have you fixed it yet? I have the exact same issue. The radio/audio keeps turning on and off by it’s own. Also, it’s affected by the temperature. When I drive the car in a hot weather, the issue would still be there but It works better! When I wake up in the morning, I need to warm up the car to make it work for a little while. It’s a weird issue. So please I really need help

I currently have this problem, place the swab into the ignition and only just recently the sound of the radio was on but no more when pressing the start button. Now i have no sounds, i.e. when the low fuel light came on the dash no sound went off and also my parrot hands free does not work.

@lemonneck After they did the software update, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my audio. On occassion, it doesn't start up right away, but it does start 100% of the time now.

Are you serious? I thought you had a solution. So, now you will go to BMW and get charged an arm and a leg to have them fix it. No wonder you got so many 'thumbs down". You deserve every one of them!

dealerships warn that program updates which are not specifically warranted by BMW are at the customers cost and risk. if the car is under warranty and this issue is not diagnosable, or the same case has not been made previously, a PUMA case needs to be put to BMW for them to warrant an update of integration level, or of replacement of the radio unit- whichever is up to BMW based on each customers issue and history with that vehicle.

Finally I found the exact problem I am having! I have a 2010 Alpina and still have not found the solution. I am reading 'software update' but I am not sure how to get that done. I have also read that this can be a bluetooth issue. SO if anyone reads this and has a solution I would appreciate any insight.

Update: Scheduled an appointment to get this fixed. I took it into the dealership when the problem was occurring and they scheduled an appointment for me. Hopefully, the problem will be fixed 100%.

For what it's worth, check your radio fuses 1st (cheapest, easiest, fastest fix if responsible). I have a 2004 330Ci & had the same problem. I checked both fuses & neither were blown, but when I put the 30amp back in, I heard an electrical circuit power-up, & thinking that the ECU may have just needed resetting, I tried the radio again & presto, it was fixed. I had the fuse out for approx 30seconds, which may or may not make a difference. GL2U

Update: First scheduled oil change and also got a software update. The audio problem seems to have been fixed.

Also, if you turn your radio off before you turn engine off. Then when you start the car the radio will not be surged and fail.

Got my car back within a 5 and a half hour turn-around. Apparently, BMW is aware of this problem and is working towards a fix. My Service Adviser asked me to give him a call in 2 weeks; inquiring about a fix for this. I will say the customer service at Long Beach BMW is good. Friendly staff, warm, and welcoming. However, was it really necessary to schedule an appointment for Wednesday? Couldn't they have just told me Saturday there was a known problem, but no known fix yet?

@Robshanky Take your car in, and describe the problem. Let them know a friend of yours had the same problem, and their dealership did a software update. The software update fixes this problem (among other things).

Don't get me wrong, their customer service is top notch. Just the fact that while the car has been in for service, they haven't been able to replicate this problem. Frustrating because it happens a lot one week, then almost never for another week. Other times it happens here and there.

Under the steering where there is a panel you have to remove. There’s a box that seals the audio connection. You can buy a lollipop to clear the loop

disconnect the positive from the battery for 15 seconds and reconnect it. this will solve the problem.

Hey..! I've got a 2005 e90 and I'm now getting this same problem..! The system will work fine for first 5 minutes in the morning then freeze..! I cannot adjust the volume or change any settings.. Even when I switch the ignition off and remove the key the radio or cd still plays and will not switch off..! I have to remove the fuse behind the glove box..! Then when I replace the fuse again the system will not switch back on for the rest of the day... Rubbish...! :-(

In a 328xi, the radio works fine . But, the buttons on the steering wheel for volume do not work to raise or lower sound. Must one program the the buttons on the steering wheel from the manual radio controls.

James Bowser check fuses in glove compartment for steering wheel controls and other related fuses. If that doesn’t work, 100% sure it’s the ignition switch

I know cars with iDrive are having that lag where their system doesn't come on for about 30 seconds, but my system doesn't come on even after hours!
