Hi! Thanks for your informative videos. Question for you: I am getting a 2024 X5 50e and will have a 50amp Chargepoint Home Flex hardwired charger. If I want to set a charging schedule is it better to use the Chargepoint app or do it through the MyBMW app in the car? Does one override the other? And if I use the Chargepoint App to manage my charging schedules, what setting should I use in the car, ie. “Charge immediately” so the Chargepoint flex sets the timing? Hope that makes sense. Thanks again!

I picked up a 2023 i4 eDrive40 last week, your videos have been the best! Is it recommended to precondition the car prior to each time you drive it?

If possible and connected to at least a level 2 charger I would say yes! Keeping the battery at optimal driving temp will only increase range and battery life/car performance

@@alexandrachaus8494 no preconditioning is only dependent on available charge, if not plugged in it will still precondition at the loss of range and charge.

If I have a daily charge time from 12am to 7am but I need to charge it at a fast charge, will it bypass my schedule and charge immediately when plugged?

Does preconditioning also heat the car? I live in a cold climate with frost quite often and hoping preconditioning would melt the ice before leaving against my departure time.

Is there a way to select to precondition now if your on a road-trip and plan going to a DC Fast Charger?

an upcoming OTA update will give you the ability to "precondition for fast charging" as a button option in the charge menu, but until that comes out you just need to put in your charger as the destination or search for it in the charger list and the car will automatically start prepping for the charge. if that's on your trip as designated by the car it will precondition as well for it as needed.

Yes… you can tell it to ONLY do the battery but standard the Precodition the cabin is checked off.

that’s about average depending on outside temp, I was seeing 346km last night at -6.67C°

Quick question.. I’m pre conditioning my car when I charge it and it’s still showing a max range of 185 miles… any idea on why?

driving style most likely, that plus daily driving habits are all factored in. While precondition will help it's not a fix all for range (a buddy of mine drives an i4 M50, mostly highway and high speed, he gets 193 miles of range on full charge with preconditioning... i drove his car for 30 miles, range increased to 269 miles after losing 11% :P

Depends on how long and how cold/hot it is.

So bottom line is it doesn’t use much, but it will affect range if you KEEP it running at the same rate after you start driving.

Departure planning IS battery preconditioning… climatization is the heating/cooling option it can do alongside battery preconditioning
