BMW E21 ignition tune up, Ignition timing & Adjusting Valves' clearances. Maintenance & Repairs ~ 2

I decided to perform a tune up on this 40 years old BMW. New spark plugs, distributor rotor & cap were installed. Ignition timing & valves adjustments were also checked and adjusted.

Hey thanks. I put the ball right in the middle of the hole at 2200 rpm’s as well. The books say that half of the ball should show on the “flat” of the hole. There is no “flat” on my 82. So, I put the ball directly center and it runs smoothly.

I've got the same model at this time. Had over 12 E21's from 230i's to 323i's and I love this car. The M10 is very easy to work on and I just did this and the 90 amp alternator swap from an E30. Also did the battery relocation and airbox delete. Engine bay is so much more open now.....great channel! Subscribed!! Next project is dropping in my M20B27 with 885 head and 4spd into this car..... All good advice from you! Glad to see this on the UToobs!

That is gonna be a one sweet ride man you should document that engine swap. & E21s are so underrated. It is glad to know there are fellow enthusiasts who take care of them.

Hey great video! Question I’m having issues with my 1982 320i. It won’t allow me to go passed 2k RPMs. I recently did the intake manifold replacement with gaskets, throttle body, injector lines/injectors vacuum lines, brake booster check valve, spark plugs, valve cover gasket. It was running great it even idled better with no bad vacuum leaks like it did before. I drove it for about 100 Miles and ran great with great power. I was so exited and happy but the next day I drove it it was starting to jerk when I was hitting the 2k rpm line and was shaking when trying to shift to 2nd gear. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! From California ✌🏼

I would check the fuel distributor to see if it is adjusted correctly or getting fuel. Also checking the ignition timing wouldn’t be a bad idea Also from California 👋

Hey thanks for replying, I appreciate it! My timing is good. How would I check the fuel distributor? Any ideas on what can also be? I can rev it higher than 2k but it struggle’s. I got the cat replaced about 4 years ago and passed smog good. I cleaned the the throttle body yesterday to see if it was dirty or stuck but it wasn’t dirty. I also disconnected the battery. I heard that if you disconnect it for a few days it may reset that computer..

@@carlosmillan5849 I know you can adjust that mechanical fuel distributor I am not sure how tho. Hopefully it is as simple as a clogged fuel filter
