Your a real trooper, talking about how bad it hurt to take a slide hammer to the, well, you know, while laughing the whole time. I guarantee you I would have cried uncontrollably. In my garage, it would be time to pay some other schmuck to clean all those parts. Well worth the extra expense! It has dawned on me that I'm at a point in my life where I would much rather watch you do this than fight with it myself, so thank you for sharing your struggles!

My dad and I have an E34 and the rear suspension is set up exactly the same as the E24. Watching you go through the struggle of changing out the bushings on the rear trailing arms gave me quite the laugh because I remember how difficult they were!

Wonderful informative, engaging content. Perfect ratio of explanation to demonstration. I hope you are enjoying making these videos as much as we are watching them! Audibly laughed at 8:25

Thank you! I am truly enjoying making these. I’ve never documented any of my car projects so it is very good fun to tinker around and talk to myself.

Your E24 is a rare treasure. The wheels are currently extremely rare. I believe these are from "BBS" and in this version were built specifically for BMW.

:) great work - I don’t know how you remember where all the bolts go. A simple job like removing the mirrors took me 2 hours lol

Thanks! I always put parts in baggies and label them, and that has always kept me on track when I reassemble it days, weeks, or months later 🙃

You are ahead of me in the restoration faze so I’m going to ride shoot gun and learn from your endeavours 😎. Good luck and keep up the good work. Greetings from Sweden.

I am very familiar with bushing and bearing removals, many more f-bombs were dropped off camera. This episode was theraputic, in the sense...somebody else was doing it. Ha!

Removing the rear trailing arm bushes is about as hard as it gets. To remove the seals from the output couplings on the diff, just use a pry bar in between the coupling and diff housing and it pops out, remember to first drain the oil. Good luck. 👍🏻😀

I need as much torque as I can get under there, so me on wheels doesn’t cut it, lol. Plus every time I use a creeper I inevitably run over my own hair.

I've recently found your videos while looking for some brake info on my 1985 CSi, Hartge conversion (Alpina white like yours). I'm the original Canadian owner and spend the winters tinkering around with it however I have not tackled some of the major projects you have undertaken. My hat off to you to take the time and effort to share your experience with other enthusiasts. If you ever get around to the hydraulic system I'd be very interested.

Thank you! That is on the short list of future projects for the E24, so I will definitely have content about the brakes at some point.

Great stuff! You've inspired me to get back to work on my e28 528e. BMWs from this era are such a joy to drive! Er, well that is once they're no longer in pieces in your garage but we've all been here! Do you have a Bentley manual for your e24? The pictures in there are super helpful if you need to reseal your differential among many other things! I did it a few years ago before I swapped in an LSD. Best of luck on your journey to restore another worthy shark-nose to glory! 👍

I wish we didn't use road salt so our old cars would look this nice in Sweden, I keep dreaming about getting an E24, maybe one day.

Apologies, I do not know enough French to type out a coherent response, so I will just proceed in English. Nobody achieves anything alone. Somewhere along the way, someone taught you the skills, bought you the tools, let you borrow their equipment, or lent a hand in the project itself. The man you are referencing is an extremely capable mechanic, and if he is offering a hand I will always accept. Could it be done alone? Absolutely, but it doesn’t need to be and I’m not going to score any extra internet points in doing so. He will continue to appear and assist in most of my videos in some way, and he still likely contributed off-screen, even it was showing me a better technique for completing that job a decade ago. Cheers.

Dog bones had me 😆 I'd call that zero rust up here. Pressure wash and a couple cans of rustoleum rebuild, it'll be brand new. Also, next time I'm around I'm secretly gonna swap your claw hammer for a nice ball peen ;) Happy new years!

Progress is bitter sweet, yes you're moving forward, but then you find all the broken things along the way. 😜 If you get a chance check out my vids of my e28. Is the e24 rear bearing 80mmx40x40 ?

Do you find getting parts for this platform is pesky?
@mariemotors
@mariemotors Жыл бұрын
A bit, but mostly due to it being a euro spec. So I don’t find out about yet another difference between the US and Euro cars until the wrong parts are already in my garage. RealOEM typically helps me avoid part ordering mishaps but some still slip through.
