To all those saying “he should’ve done this” and he “should’ve done that” I have some advice for you. Buy your own parts washer, paint booth, materials and your own project car and then take all the time and energy it takes to not only DO all this work, but take time to film it for others to enjoy and then post it on youtube. THEN and ONLY THEN do you have a right to tell someone like this what he “should’ve” done. So easy to type a “know it all” comment, lots harder to actually get off your a$$ and do something yourself.

Looking good. I see in one of your comments you are getting new seals for the gearbox... they cheap and removing the gearbox is a pain so better to do them now. As for replacing anything inside the gearbox... if shifting is still smooth... doubt you need to do anything on the inside, but you can change the oil anyway. Never know what might have happened while in the previous owner's care and you can look for any big metal particles/bits which might indicate a problem. You can do the same check with the diff. Although I'm quite jealous of you being able to do this, I really want to see it done. Great work.

I might be late to the party but: Replace the small pin where the clutch fork rests on. They are made out of plastik. I've replaced it with a stainless steel one, lasts longer than the clutch fork. Then the fork itself might have substantial wear, replace it when it isn't in prestine condition. Also replace every bearing, bushing or stuff, because some are then hidden. Replace also diff bushings, gearbox bushings and also engine bushings. Sensorwise use only OEM BMW or Hella/ Siemens VDO, the other ones might not work as expected. Speaking of expierince here, the E39 with it's M52 is very annoying when the sensors aren't from a very good manufacturer...:D
