I love how most of the comments are "oh no lube on the bearings" or "oh no they didnt do that thing"! Relax, people, these are professionals, quite good ones, too. The probability that they've done that more than you have and better than you have is quite high. There is lube. They have done everything correctly. Bear in mind that this is the 'short' version, you can't (and don't have to) film everything. Otherwise - great job on the engine. Looks good now.

I'd check the valve lash after the head is installed and torqued down. Even with both mating surfaces decked, the head twists and moves around a little after the bolts are in and the valve clearances change. I set my valve lash after I rebuild my 885 and before I torqued it down. After I put the headbolts in, all of the clearances were too tight and I had to readjust. Last thing you want is to wipe a cam or wear out a rocker on break in. Good luck.

well meaning tip:Double check each valve clearance after tightening the eccentric because the tightening process can[and did on me] rotate the eccentric or leave the feeler gauge in place until tightening is complete ant the drag of the gauge stays the same. Interesting difference in machines vs US.... The grinding stone vs a decking/flycutter head is a really big one.
@victorpelini59955 жыл бұрын
What do you mean ? Whats best, grinding stone or decking machine ?
@md4luckycharms5 жыл бұрын
@@victorpelini5995 flycutters can remove a lot more material faster, but they might not have the best surface finish, ideally you'd deck it and then use a surface grinder to get the best results but most of the time a flycutter will do the job good enough and cheaper and quicker
@victorpelini59955 жыл бұрын
@@md4luckycharms hoooo I see Well, ive seen more grindstone than flycutter in machine shops here (France) so I guess its cultural 🤷 Also you should remember the fact that murican motors are bigger and usually have twice the cylinder count 🙃 (dem V8)
@md4luckycharms5 жыл бұрын
@@victorpelini5995 It's interesting to see the differences in engineering culture between countries I must say, thinking about it, it might be nice to see those differences mentioned at engineering schools. However, as to the reason I see more flycutters here in the States than in France. My thoughts are that much of the machinery was concentrated in the remaining machine shops after the world wars while here in the US the wartime machines got sold to the general public. Good quality used milling machines are in abundance here while I don't see many surface grinders out and about. I figure that the shops over there that could do that kind of work had the equipment already or got sufficient business that they could afford it, whereas here you had options as to which shop you could go to for cheaper. Not to mention that tolerances for engines are probably a bit more relaxed over here. Just my thoughts with the information that I currently have. On my bucket list is traveling to Europe to figure out how we got from blacksmithing to lathes to Mills to cnc machines repeatedly accurate to the millionth.

Those holes drilled into the counterweight on the crankshaft, are they for precise balancing? Went to the Porsche museum recently and saw a lot of these, for example on a 917k crankshaft. On the other hand at the Mercedes museum I saw a crankshaft from a 1930 racing car, I think a W25, and that didn't have them. I thought it was very odd maybe they shaved them of in a less conspicuous manner.
@dpratt7765 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming they checked the clearences before resembely the crank, main journals and connectings rods, and no visible sign of assembly lube on the new bearings? And the new rings, did they gap checked and correctly clock to each coresponding piston or are these items not relevant for a modern (ish) engine? Great build video.
@krlichos5 жыл бұрын
Dont u understand that EVERITHING that they have done its not in the video? Do you think that a rectification shop like that, will not prelube parts that need to be lubed? A lot of engineers knows it all around here man...
