Very good sir. People don't realize how time consuming the filming process is and how damn annoying it is not to be able to just fix the car without distractions.

Many thanks for this video. It's the best one I found on KZbin and helped give me confidence to do my own timing belt after paying shops to do them on both my E30s since 2006. One thing to note: The bolt holding my late-model camshaft timing gear takes an E12 size female torx socket (not E14 as stated in the video).

Great video--very informative. I like to mark the old belt with a dot of white paint next to the timing marks before taking it off. That way, if you inadvertently turn the engine while the belt is off, you can use the marks from the old belt to return the crankshaft and cam to their respective proper positions.

You can leave it in park, doesn’t matter when rotating crank. And yes that cam sprocket found in the later model e30s (89-92) is much more durable.

also where your video dropped out at around the 5:46 mark, you say you put a 22mm on the crank bolt... which way did you turn it? Also did you have spark plugs in? I have been researching about doing this job and many are saying you can't crank the car if spark plugs are in or its not jacked up so the wheels can turn... I don't have jacks and im not going to jack the whole car up to turn the crank... what can I do man? Am I going to run into a problem with the crank not being able to turn?

Take the radiator off for starters. Set engine TDC. Use a parrot wrench open to the biggest setting and put it around the gear wheel (thing around the bolt) but have it resting on the Ac compressor. Use breaker bar and additional pipe to create leverage when rotating the bolt to the left. As you rotate the hold parrot wrench shut so the crank doesn’t spin it should hold gear in place as your using the ac compressors to hold it tight. LEt me know if that doesn’t make sense 😂 I only saw one video on it on KZbin

I have 325 aswell in the USA. About to start his job, will let you know if I have tdc marks or not. But like he mentioned, you can put a screwdriver (I prefer to use a socket extension) in cylinder 1 (after removing the sparkplug of course) and turn the crank till the screwdriver is all the way at the apex of its travel.

@thisisyaren Жыл бұрын
@@sensei1781 you should be able to find better marks once the crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer are off... That's what I went by... Also where your cam sprocket is clean the whole are very well and then have another look. You should be able to see the marks... I don't believe they are not there I recon it's just dirty if you can't find it... I searched and searched and searched... Even still I have to hold a light there to sorta show it up. these cars are old now I believe over time the markings either get covered over from dirt or whatever and or its from wear and tare
