16th January The day this video is being posted is exactly 30 years since our BMW E36 318IS was put on the road at the local dealership. For Ten of those years we've had it in the TE Family from using it as a daily motor to classic car duties in the summer.

The E36 is great. I like them but I was never that keen on the 'compact' version. I thought the balance looked perfect and the shorter boot went away from this. I think the E36, E34 (4th Gen 5-Series) and E24 (6-Series) were perhaps the last iconic BMW's. The later 3, 5 & 6-Series look nice but the styling of other makes had caught up by then and they do not stand out in the same way. The E36 front and rear indicator actually still has remnant of the shark face (can be seen in the video at 3:00 for example).

I had a black 318is E36 coupe for several years. I replaced it with another E36 a 328 cabrio. Both were fantastic cars to drive and I still miss them so it's nice to see this one in such great condition.

@@ThomasEdward Yeah it's a bonus that it's been part of your family's history and people love a red sporty car. That's what's great about classics, someone always approaches you and says I used to have one of those, or their dad did.

Thank you very much! Pre 95 e36s are my true inner geek. I do all round videos here all over the scale of interests so even know you subscribed for BMWs you probably end up watching other TE videos.

I've had mine for 20 years! I have the later 1.9L version. Coupe is the nicest looking E36.

So you got the m44 so yours is serious old money the coupe is lovely design. What colour is yours?

@@ThomasEdward Yeah the M44, the M42 is meant to be the longer lasting engine but it's only 114k. I have a white one and it has hardly any rust on it at all. Went to check out the E36 coupes at the car auction for a friend but he forgot his debit card to bid and this one was going cheap, less than 3k so I bought it because white is my fav colour and it was really mint condition. Got a black leather sports interior to fit too so will be nice when I get that done.

@@madcommodore Rare find one in white it will be alpina white won’t it? I actually saw white coupe last weekend brought some bits from lad who had white 323i coupe and was saying to him they rare colour for the coupe. Sports seats are rare thing specially if they in good condition. M44 is bit too much plastic but you can make them good with M42 parts but for me like I say in video early e36s are up my street the most! But I do appreciate all the e36 years specially if they haven’t been messed with. Still low miles 114k hardly ran in. Have you seen my video on the saloon e36 I have rescued? Thomas,

@@ThomasEdward I had a 1994 325i Coupe before, that was a nice car too. I don't really pimp up any of my cars I buy, I like original BMW options on my cars. The E36 M3 boot spoiler is nice but I haven't decided if would fit that as I would need to buy some M3 wheels and then the ride will probably be ruined. The E36 is probably the last BMW designed to last for decades, I had a lot of silly problems with my E46 328 coupe, nice car but you get tired of fixing things constantly. My 318is started sounding rough as hell on start up but after a 300 mile round trip to the other side England and back it ran sweet as a nut again. My 325i E36 coupe was also a really dependable car, used to work 50 miles away so I did 500 miles a week in that and they are a quality car. I haven't checked out any of your other videos yet sadly.

@@madcommodore Oooh 94 325i Coupe now there's car I have friend who has two 94 OEM 325i who I do classic car shows with. The spoilers specially bigger M3 ones not worth it because they so heavy they break the latch on the boot after time and like you se dose not suit SE trim. Spoiler and bumper on this all dealer fit so it will stay like that, Yeah They like to be driven e36s. Drop us email below also be nice see your 318is keep in touch with you.

You know Rolls Royce silver spirit end my videos well that was at hoghton tower we were opposite that and because we last 10 cars in hoghton because motorway been shut we were on end of line in front of hall. There was red opel manta next to us do you remember that? Also General Lee was across from us too.

A year after your car left the factory, BMW bought Rover Group. Speaking to guys who worked at Rover at the time, legend is that the BMW staff who came over from the BMW FIZ in Munich had rather unusual dress codes... Bear in mind that almost all Rover staff wore the plain grey work wear and green or burgundy polo shirts. The BMW guys wore "smart casual". Bright coloured sports jackets with rolled up sleeves, garish shirts and ties, jumbo cords, "fashion” shoes and zero sense of humour. They stood out a mile. This was a culture clash of fashion, attitudes and professional differences.
