BMW e36 M3 S52 knock ticking

To anyone still looking for the issue, I had this same noise, removed all my spark plugs (two were hand tight) and re-tightened them and the issue was gone.

Cristian was the cheek engine light on because I'm having the same problem

I removed em and put them back in 5 times and it wasn’t the issue

If the sound is coming from the intake area just behind the air box (generally) the noise is a pulley. Change your Alt belt and check pulleys and tensioner. Mine sounded exactly the same way, until I changed the belt assembly. I thought it was a rod/lifters...

Sounds like my s52. Had no oil pressure. Camshafts were scored from loss of oil to the top of the motor.

This was fixed long ago. Problem was none of the above. There were a few stretched intake cam tray studs that wouldn't allow the tray to tighten, causing the tapping.

so did you replace the studs? or how did you get it tight? I have exact same knock and I just cleaned my lifters.

Deans Bimmer I did that fix , rebuilt complete top end , still the sound

Me too completely new top end, head lifters, lifter trays , cam shafts vanos seals.. mine only sounds like that by warm Engine and in neutral in D ( automatic) the noise disappears

I have that exact noise.. I tore apart the engine and took a look at the oil pump but it seemed to be fine. Any suggestions?

sounds like no oil pressure. my s50 makes the almost exact noise.

did you fix the noise ? Looks like there are more than one thing that are making noise, front of engine and around injectors,
