@@nchlswng Revving "any" Cold engine and ANYTIME is not good for ANY vehicle.,as the oil is not up at the top of the engine because oil runs down when is it used and when you shut it off hot....I myself think there is another Inherited problem with BMW engine . Great job fella.....keep up the good work. Lots of people "myself included" are afraid of BMW because of this mythical reputation they have been given. Some people genuinely think that even the simplest of maintenance and repairs needs to be performed strictly by BMW specialists. Just by watching your videos I have learned that I can do things for myself without fear and incurring the costs associated with main dealers and independent specialists. Thank you

Many thanks BMW Dr. For posting this . It really helped. I just had the annual servicing and the ticking noise started just after the annual service. I ignored for 2 weeks and my car broke down in the middle of the road. I found this video of yours and followed your procedure and it worked . Many thanks again. I had this ABS flipping and battery light as well. Is that because of ticking problem as well?

Thank you!! Our Mazda campervan made this noise when we started her up about 10 minutes ago... she’s purring again, which is great news because she’s our full-time house! It is cold where we live currently, and we haven’t been driving around very much. We’ll get some of the top end treatment like you mentioned and maybe even an oil change sooner than required to keep her in good condition. We appreciate you!! It really spooked us this morning because she’s had trouble starting lately already when it’s cold and rainy and this was a new noise on top of a squeal she had going. Thanks again!

‘Bravo Zulu’ this procedure solved the noisy lifter problem on my vintage 2001 BMW 330Ci. I have tried everything I could find in forums and on KZbin, including the flush suggested by Nathan. This procedure has been added to my weekly preventive maintenance schedule. Thanks mate . . . Best regards, Nat Ray

I have a 2002 330ci convertible 5 speed stick shift with 73000 miles on it. It's a nice fun car. But it has this ticking noise and the check engine light comes on at time. The car has no power as if it's in limp mode when I give it gas after sitting for a minute or so, like at a red light. But if I turn the car off and then on again it goes away almost immediately. Car has a code come up, some p code having to do with cylinder 2. I changed spark plugs and a bad boot. It was good for a couple days then problem Reoccurred. I removed the fuel injecter cleaned it. Problem went away then came back after a few days. Checked coils again, one had a fucked up spring so I changed it. Problem went away for like3 weeks....then came back. I'm not a mechanic but I can do a little. I may have to take it to a shop.

I am so relieved to hear this worked for you! Firstly I am a registered Nurse, yet where it comes to CARS/ (or man jobs 😂) … I honestly have no idea. I live in Australia as well & find no one i go to LIKES DODGES absolutely no one in my local 40 minutes radius will touch my car! It was thought to ‘timing belt’ but then my usual mechanic who refuses to touch a dodge states ‘ timing belt tensioner kit failed” & needs replacement. He just had a listen to half a dozen areas on top/under engine with a hose type car stethoscope. My mechanic was fabulous never ripped me off, he done the listen check due to no one can be sure what the heck the noise is or say anything other then I need to replace the engine. My mechanic (just regos the car now). I recently took it to JEEP. Spent $1700 trying to find out what the noise is too. INSTEAD TOLD I need to get a second hand engine fitted in it or park it out in the weather next time it hails 🤦‍♀️ I clarified this noise can’t i just put the tensioner kit in & be done with it? Again advised NO as the timing belt tensioner kit you have to take engine out to get to it to fit it, it’s such a big job they ensured as fact. Going so far to state timing belt tensioner kits cost $3500 then add labor of $2000 = $5500 without consumables (if right word i recall it meant hoses etc are not covered in price quoted). Second hand engine =$5999 😳, Car is worth 💲2 🇦🇺 sounding like this & considering i am on

Interesting video! I hadn't started my E46 330i for a full year. Once I started it, there was a tick. I took the car for a 6 hour drive, almost all highway. When I parked the car at home with fresh gas it was great. Apparently it just need to get the fluids fully circulated to replace the old oil that got crappy and stuck in the hydraulic lifters!

This worked great for my 4.4 liter BMW. Unfortunately, while holding the engine at 3,000 rpm, I accidentally nudged the gearshift lever into Drive. My vehicle left two burned rubber marks, laid down by the rear tires, and plowed through the lower floor of my home. Fortunately, my family was on the second floor, along with our dog. Funny thing though ... after driving through the house, I managed to put the Shift Lever into the Park position, and got out of the vehicle. - Wouldn't you know? The engine was purring like a kitten, and the lifter tapping noise was gone! Thanks man. You saved me money! 😀👍

And is that the natural BMW sound to kind of still sound kind of clicky like when you showed the engine again after getting the engine going for 3 minutes? Sorry for the lack of knowledge! Also, if someone lets the tick go without doing anything about it-can it eventually cause a bigger issue eventually? Thanks man!

So I pretty much had the exact same issue tonight with my 2004 c320 and it happened on my way home while I was in a school zone going slow, I found this video and I tried it and I only held it out about 1500 RPM to 2000 pretty much around 2000 for about 2 to 3 minutes and at first I didn't think it works and I was burning a bunch of oil so I shut my car off I left it alone for a little bit I came back out and started again about an hour and a half later and it was running just as quiet as it was before and no longer burning oil 😂 so thank you for the great advice I suggest anyone else looking to solve this problem without having to spend money try this first because I was about to buy a new motor 🤣

I've had a ticking from my 2007 2.7 Boxster for months. Ive been worried sick that it was the start of bore scoring! Watched your vid and went for 4th gear thrash down the A2 at 4000rpm. Ticking has stopped. Fingers crossed that its cleared the problem. Big thanks for posting the vid. Not seen this suggestion on any porsche forums.

My friend sent me this last night. I recently replaced head gasket on a m54 2.5 (e46) for my mom. One lifter seems to have bled down and hasn't fully pumped back up yet (2 months). I have purchased a lifter and was planning on replacing it before too long. I'm assuming this wont work seeing how I drove the piss out of it after repairing and the arrival of the noise. Any experience with that issue on that engine?

Hey man! Thankyou for the video! I'm definitely going to check out the rest and subscribe to your channel. I have a question though, I'm a first time bmw owner and I have a 1994 bmw 325i convertible e36. Would this work on my motor?? I really dont want to fuck up anything if that's not the solution for my motor. Haha. Cheers.

Hi there, I'm about to collect my crashed F10 520d lci which has gone through a massive repair and just discovered your channel and am loving it! I just finished watching your Do Not Remap episode and am totally conviced that one should not remap a BMW engine. However, I noticed in this episode that you seem to have the RaceChip control module installed on your car, does that mean it is safer to use a Racechip instead of an ecu remap? Additionally, I would also like to ask for your advise regarding what I should check, and what I need to replace to ensure an immauclate running car upon collecting my 520d f10 once the repair has been complete. Just a brief description, the engine was not damaged, but I had to change the A-Pillar on the car, as welll as replaced the entire interior as mould had grown inside during the months it took to negotiate and finalize with the insurance company, causing the car to be left unattended for close to 2 years. I also took the chance to completely change the look of the car with m5 bodykit, 20" wheels, and a quad exhaust system. Your knowledgeable advise would be very much appreciated. I thank you in advance and please feel free to ask me for any further information if you feel you should reuire more of it.

Really enjoying your videos, getting an education. I've got a 2008 528i @ 119k miles (pretty sure N52 engine) with this lifter tick noise. It used to stop very shortly after starting the engine but now takes driving around for some time. The tick returns the next day...or if my car is sitting for more than a day or two...ugh! Is this RPM rev procedure a permanent fix. Thoughts welcome. Thx.

I once bought a mazda 6 that had ticking noise for 500 bucks cause it was ticking after sitting. Worse case scenario lifter or rod bearing. I did revs like this and even higher rpms. Every 5 seconds or so and ticking went away. Sold car for 3k following week 😂😂😂

From what I have read, this was due to a faulty design where the lifters didn't get the right amount of oil pressure to actually secure enough flow for the lifters to expand. A "small" backlash where they had to change the top for a new reworked one with the right oil flow capacity to the lifters. Any insight on this? Cheers and thanks for a good channel!

Yes go for a little drive first then do this method. Also, these engines don't like low rpms boys. Make it a habit to start shifting closer to 2,500 in general. You're not saving yourself by shifting at 1,700 to 'preserve gas mileage' - I have a turbo N54 335is, I had to learn a lot about these machines
