BMW E36 S54 SWAP PRO'S & CON'S

I did it in the USA. I mostly rebuilt my S54, and have over 20 Episodes on the build, including E85. Cannot speak on turbo, but my view of fitting them in the e36 bay is low. You had a front oriented turbo and it looked rather large, heat management is an issue with any turbo build and it is way hotter in the states. A rear mounted turbo is more traditional cannot be as large but also has heat management concerns. Turbo manifolds are actually better for the S54 as well but I did not go that route either. Carbon airbox are expensive and the MAP update is needed but are fantastic from what I gather. There is info on how to imporve older ECU to accommodate MAP. Left hand drive electrical is not as easy as the e46 has the ECU on the Left. But yes it is not a difficult swap mechanically

Nice build man. I just came across your channel and just want to say great work. Can I ask what ecu did u use. Was it the s54 ecu and what about the ews and harness. Did u use an harness adapter. I’m currently doing the same here in the US. The wiring process I’m running into a wall. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've mused over an S54 for my 328i Sport .. I have an E36 M3 vert but feel like my 328i would be fantastic with the E46 powerplant. Looking forward to watching this video!

S54 is the way forward in an E36! Honestly the best setup I’ve driven, certainly faster options etc, but as a whole package, for the price, the fun, use-ability etc it’s the best option in my opinion 👍

@@wds_originals I'm in agreement ... the only thing I have contemplated is the rising prices of 328i Sports lol ... so did muse over buying another E36 to do a build on but ... I love my existing car and making it a restomod to my spec and taste is definitely very appealing. I can see the M50 turbo route for the big numbers but NA is really my thing with these cars.

Love the s54 in the E36 chassis. I personally have the (hated) smg2 system in my car . Love it all fun zero comfort build. No insulation, carpets nothing

Hello there from Greece! I have an E36 M3 (cabrio) with an S52 with 321 bhp and 6 speed manual gearbox . Unfortunately the engine one night died (blew) and I can’t find replacement 5 years now, so I’m thinking using an S54…..can I use just an engine or do I need the S54 gearbox and other paraphernalia? Thanks!

S54 engine mates up to e36 m3 box and flywheel etc makes it more cost effective that way too 👍 hope you get it sorted 👌
