good content. What's crazy is that people swear supersprint headers produce the most hp, now I'll be looking into euro headers thanks

Great video. Exactly what I found years ago on Euro vs SSV2 (not able to run V1 due to RHD here in the UK). Euro actually made a little more top end vs the V2. BMW clearly put some proper development into the original header design

How did SS affect the sound? I'm not a fan of the choked, raspy sound from the European manifolds.

Great comparison, Matt! Pretty much what we've always known, and were told by the old heads back in the day, can't go wrong with OEM Euro. I've installed and driven pretty much every header over the years... there's been a couple I really don't like, but SS and OEM Euro are my favs.

Great work, guys. Thanks for taking the time to document this and set the record straight.

Very interesting. Solid work. You haven't left a whole lot of room for debate. Thanks for explaining what you did re: tuning, hard to poke any holes in the comparison. I would have thought if anything the sect 1 change would have had an effect. I'll be hanging on to the sets of S54 CSL headers and euro headers I have, that's for sure. Thx.

I’d still like to know what the gains might be with Schrick cams and ported head. Great video by the way.👍🏼

Wish I would have kept my euro headers/cats, $1200 all in, sold that for my current SSV1 setup, which definitely doesn't sound as good as the euro stuff. Nice video, definitely will cause some conversation as the SSv1 is supposed to be hands down the best header.

Love this type of content comparing setups with dyno proof. I currently run Megan headers, any reason to switch to euro’s? Not sure if you guys have any data with them.

My 01 M3 with Ebay Header, Shark Injector Tune, Intake and Magnaflow Catback made 310whp, manual car. Highest I saw at the time was about 330whp with a couple of other mods. This was done on a dynapack. So those numbers your car made is pretty much up there very good numbers being N/A on a motor that was 333hp crank.
@jdubbsvt852 ай бұрын
Is that whp? 362 seems pretty optimistic for a bolt on S54...
@racerxS14252 ай бұрын
Yes whp, it’s like 420hp+ at the crank They installed a carbon airbox and tuned my built s54 and im a 346whp which is like 405hp at the crank (using avg 17% for driveline loss)
@jdubbsvt852 ай бұрын
@racerxS1425 definitely inflated numbers. Average numbers for a bolt ons s54 is around 320-330whp even on a dynojet...if it were a pro hub, would be lucky to see over 300whp 😅
@racerxS14252 ай бұрын
@ I’ll let Matt jump in and take over this conversation. I can tell you from my personal experience owning m3 for 20yrs, it’s been on the dyno a bunch from standalone’s back to stock for the modifications I’ve compared with mods and their numbers were on the middle/ conservative side. 🤷🏻♂️
@jdubbsvt852 ай бұрын
@racerxS1425 all good. I've had several s54s and been on dynojets, superflow, dynapak hub dynos, pro hub hub dynos...rollers typically read higher but 360whp+ is stroker or at least cams territory for an s54. My current na s54 e36 has almost the exact same mods and only put down 315whp but that was on a hub dyno (pro hub).
@pashkaS542 ай бұрын
The important part is the comparison of the headers on the same car and on the same dyno, not the number that it makes. Even wheels, tires, and alignment make a difference on the rollers and corrections can be skewed if the weather station is in a warm/cold part of the shop.

What else has been done to the engine, other than the exhaust / headers and tune? Looks like stock intake. Anything else?

Great staff , put oem H-pipe back (section 2) as x pipe SS is not great with SS V1 . Try H-pipe either oem or H-pipe SS and you will see gains up top .

I am happy to buy the SS headers off you.

Which euro headers did you run? 500/501 or 658/659?

This guy tunes.
@Khan_Art_2 ай бұрын
Wow I am suprised. I don't feel bad not having SS stepped headers now. So full exhaust and tune is making around 36x whp?
@kasselperformance1242 ай бұрын
Mustang Holeshot SAE Numbers, BUT this car makes 15-20 MORE whp than most S54 we see on this dyno, likely because its a sludged up engine that the rings actually seal, lol.

2025 and people still dont know how exhaust works. Smh. This has been done to death. Why do we still think we're gonna find something new? SSV1 do make more power, especially in the 6-8k rpm range where you'd be sitting at when driving hard. The SS y/x pipe, whatever you want to call it, flows less than the dual OEM. DINAN muffler is the best flowing muffler, so this setup of SSV1 to SS single to Dinan is kinda messed up, not what I would do. Reference: Turner CSL, oem uro header, oem 1 2 , SCZA - 324whp/250wtq - BEST SOUNDING Turner CSL, SSV1 , dual SS res, SCZA - 330whp/252wtq Turner CSL, SSV1 , dual SS res, SCZA, CatCams 280/272 - 348whp/258wtq @153k miles Same tuner (HTE), same dynojet, SSv1 test was done in summer too vs May for the üros PS. Also those dyno numbers, that wtq figure is cams and pistons levels. Cammed, CSLed, SSV1 and 12:1 pistons and then you see 270-280wtq. Again dyno conditions matter but in this case the delta does as well. Must be below the sea level. Nothing surprising about this test, the limiting factor the sec 2 is left alone so there isnt much of a difference. If the section 2 was oem I'd wager at least a 5whp increase. Which is still insane considering the money youd spent. Glad i got mine when prices werent retarded.
@kasselperformance1242 ай бұрын
I was confident we would pick up power up top as well, This wasn't a sponsored test and was my own money to run this setup. So to say I wasn't a bit dejected when I had to work to try and recover lost power would be an understatement. Maybe we'll do the OE section 2 video to see if we gain anything back. Dyno numbers are just that, numbers... if you want to compare mustang to dynojet numbers that a different conversation, but We just worry about deltas here and could care less what it makes on another.
@PaleD2 ай бұрын
@@kasselperformance124then on that particular day you'd have to dyno the x/y pipe and then the OEM sec2. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

What was the baseline HP/torq with stock cat manifold?
@Gjon7772 ай бұрын
Strange. I’ve seen cars pick up power across the board on the v1 stepped headers. Did you guys mention you’re running a section 1 or section that reduces to a single pipe setup with the stepped headers?
