It's time for a carwow team head-to-head! We've got Mat in his Toyota GR Yaris going up against cameraman Jack in his BMW E46 M3!
So how do these two compare on paper? Well first up we have Mat's GR Yaris, which can produce 261hp & 360Nm of torque thanks to a 1.6-litre 3 cylinder turbo engine up front. What's more, it's also equipped with AWD along with launch control, and weighs in at 1,280kg.
As for E46, well it's powered by a 3-litre straight-six to put down 343hp & 365Nm. So, it's up on power, but it has a few areas of weakness compared to the GR Yaris. Not only does it weigh in almost 200kg heavier (at 1,470kg), it isn't equipped with launch control either!

I'm an E46 330 Cabrio owner... It's one of the best car built... After 350.000 km it's like new and run powerfully like the first day. A 3 cylinder engine after 10 years at 350.000 km leave the pushrod on the road. E46 is a timeless machine.

E46 seems down on power. Stock GR Yaris is ~15sec 100-200kph, the E46 should do that in around 12-13sec. Something is off

Yes, it shouldn't be deep into 5th gear for it to pass. Power to weight is even a little bit better on the E46 and it's RWD, so less drivetrain loss

Probably 20 years of use and not regular mantienance, not changing oil on time or at all in gearbox/rear diff etc. Also NA engine many times have less power in real world than on test condition, on the other hand boosted engines tend to be opposite.

@@denisdeari1 A car has a purpose, and you can compare any car in the world if it is the best for this purpose. Sometimes it's a question of preferences, like when we talk about the looks of a car. But speed can be compared, and it is fair to do so. For some in the 90s, older cars were faster (at least in europe) thx to newer regulations. Now it has changed again (for some time already...), and people must accept that older cars are most of the time slower with the same base numbers. But you CAN compare them, that is even the whole point of doing races.

@@AH-jf9ge As said, in the end it depends on what you want. But it is fair to compare a car based on your needs, regardless of its age. In fact, I think the BWM is doing fine in this test, especially when you consider that is way cheaper (as a used car). But Denis Deari said you can not compare these cars because of the age difference, and I think that is now true.
