Oh my God, thank you so much for this video. I’ve watched countless videos, and none of them showed how the belt go on the pulleys like this one you are truly a lifesaver. I had no diagram to look at because my serpentine belt snapped on the highway.

As always great video and audio and plenty of information! I own a ‘02 325i w/AT. Over the weekend my SERP. Belt broke while driving to a friends wedding. I got lucky that it didn’t get into the engine via crank seal! Before I install a new belt would I have or need to re-time the ole gal or no? She starts still and have replaced the pulleys including water pump pulley as well. 124k miles btw. Thanks in advance for any info and for all the experiences u share with us! Keep em coming !

Great video. FYI guy that works for company I work for got two weeks off using the slang for Diagonal Pliers in a public business because someone thought it to be offensive. Just the world we live in. 😢

This happened to me on the freeway going 80 mph in the left-most lane. My power steering just cut out, and all of a sudden my e39 felt like a old school chevy lol. Pretty scary moment for a relatively new driver.

That sucks hopefully the engine did not over heat
@youngmanlee60228 жыл бұрын
How fast would it take to overheat?
@NathansBMWWorkshop8 жыл бұрын
it would get hot within 1 to 2 minutes, and melt down at around 5 minutes if the car was at operating temp before it happened

I’ve been thing about getting rid of clutch fan due to what happens when it breaks plus I’ll be better gas mileage, a little more hp and quicker rev. I can’t find much info about it. How do you feel about getting rid of the clutch fan and what do you recommend for the electric one as a replacement and what has to be done to have it work properly? Thank you and I love your videos. They have helped this new bmw owner out tremendously

I know perfectly how to do this but I like your videos so I watched it anyways. Just like that :)

Top work Nathan. Exactly the job I have to do this week. My Idler pulley actually disintegrated. I'll be replacing all of them plus new belts of course. Mick

This video is as good as it gets. Thank you so much sir! But one question for you, My car makes some noise every time I step on the gas. The fan clutch runs so much higher than it should and it’s making some noise. When I drive around town it makes noise like a shrieking sound noise every time I step on the gas. But if I let go of the gas the sound goes away. But when I run on the freeway I have power and there’s no sound the higher I go. The sound comes from the tension belt and the fan when you put in park and step on the gas. Please help me. I change the purge valve, the air flow sensor, and check all the air flow and they’re all ok. I have a 2002 BMW X5 3.0i engine. Please help me. I can’t figure where it’s coming from. Is it my idler pulley or the water pump. I recently change my water pump because it was broken. The shop did it. Don’t want to lose anymore money in the shop no more. I only knew after watching your videos that the fan clutch goes right into the water pump. Please help me! Thank you! By the way, is it normal for the fan clutch not be able to trust by your hand? I see that you can spend the fan clutch with your hand but I can’t with mine. Is the fan on too tight? Is this why I’m hearing this sound? Is this why when I step on the gas the fan runs like crazy high? Is that normal? Please response! Thank you!

I got a 2005 330i where did you purchase your parts? Rock auto? I have a late build 330i which has M3 components. So I'm not sure what are the right parts to buy.

Serpentine belt breaking, I have a 2003 E-150 6 cylinder 4.2 liter Cargo Van with 130,000 miles, The belt shredded off after starting in cold weather, I purchased a replacement (Drive-Rite $27 6-rib 1 yr. warranty belt 1020K6 6PK2590) I had a very hard time getting it on, I had the pulley moved over 100% and it still took two men and the but of a hammer to push it over the idler pulley, seemed too tight compared to videos here on You Tube, so I figured this was due to slight difference in length due to manufacture??? or could this be a symptom of something else? I started and ran it for10 minutes, it started smoking at first, figured this was due to cold belt, moisture whatever, it stopped after a few minutes, so shut it off. restarted and it ran for a minute then snapped, on one side of the belt appears to be some wear and slight shredding. I do not want to just buy another belt and put it on without finding the cause here, 2 belts broke leads me to believe something is out of alignment? What is the most likely cause in your experience? spring pulley? idler pulley? A/C locking up? Thanks in advance for any help...

This looks like a great tutorial. My belts got a terrible squeak in reverse when at low revs and while idling in reverse. Also when I take off at low revs in drive. Will this be the belt worn/loose? Or is it more the pulleys? My car is a 2001 BMW 330i
@Ty-nb5mi7 жыл бұрын
did this fix it? I'm having the same problem on my e46 1999 328i
@Eratiik7 жыл бұрын
Tswagman00 it's one of my pulleys. Do you know where the squeak is? In your 328? Like which pulley? Mine was the very top one. Does it happen in the rain?

Where did you get all those parts at? My x5 3.0 has a squeaking noise coming from the alternator front of the engine that sounds awful and I think it’s one of the pulleys

Do i for sure have to take the fan off to replace the serpentine belt? I just had to replace my ideler pulley and i have a 32mm wrench for that nut but don't have anything to hold it from spinning
@NathansBMWWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
Yes you do, if you have the wrench just use a long screwdriver or pry bar to hold it

Nathan's DIY Garage oh ok. Im thinking i could just run that belt around the fan
@TheCre8or7 жыл бұрын
Yea the belt was long enough to just run it around the fan, i didn't finish because it got dark but it fits around the fan itself to get in where it needs to be
