BMW e46 multifunction steering wheel control not working diagnostic

Airbag, horn, Cruise control, volume, phone fix

Only the left hand side controls have stopped working for me. Horn and cruise control all still works and they all light up. Would you say this is a head unit problem

Not sure. If l was in your position ld first run a scan on it and see if there are any related codes stored

@@moyb112 0 codes at all. Last time when I had no controls all of them didn’t work and the whole panel was faulty so I changed it. Literally just the volume and station change buttons that aren’t working the phone and RT one don’t do anything anyway as I have an android head unit, they were working fine then just stopped randomly I’ll try disconnecting the battery for an hour first

so .... i installed a new airbag on my e46 the square one with controls, i didn't had controls before, i installed new one, all good... then somehow i reached here... opened the onion bands ... and mine look well... however... my problem now is... how the hell do i put the onion bands back? cause the protection bands are shorter than the "comunication bands" i mean makes sense cause the protection is on the inside of the circle... but when i reach the end ... they are flipped somehow ... :( oh well this is how i will spend my night figuring out how not to brake those bands ... and somehow fit them back in....

I remember that job quite fiddly. Replacement is £250 from bmw got mine from the scrap yard for £10. Good luck hope it all goes well

Yeah l did. Very easy. Just removed the ribbon cassette and put a new one in

@@moyb112 nice one pal so what do you call this ribbon and and where did you buy that please I am having the same problem with my steering wheel same airbag warning on as well

Don't bother going to bmw they wanted £300 bought mine from the scrap yard for £10. Not sure exactly what bmw call it but if yo Google steering squib or slip ring you will find it. The are some on ebay

@@moyb112 thanks brother I will try to find hope I have the same issue and if the issue is with the ribbon I would need to buy a ribbon then isn’t it ?

It's a complete kit. Would be a nightmare to sort the ribbon on it own
