BMW E60 545i/550i Oil + Filter change & service light reset

DIY oil change for E60 BMW 545i/550i with V8 engine. Shown here is a 2008 550i Msport with N62B48 engine.
Oil used: LiquiMoly Long Life 5W-30. 8 quarts.
Filter: Hengst W0133-1635667-HEN or Mann HU 823X

Great video it was very helpful. One change is that you said it was a 23mm to get oil filter housing off and my 1/2” socket set has everything from about 19mm to 30mm but no 23mm so I ordered one specifically for this. And it turns out that the correct size is a 24mm which I already had. Maybe add a note to video at that part.

Can you change the oil filter without changing all the engine oil ?

I have not tried this but since the filter is at the bottom of the engine, it may drain from there when the housing is removed

Short answer, no. You will lose oil and you might as well add new oil regardless.

Where is the oil dip stick located on the car?

When you open the hood, it is on the right (driver side) at the top of the engine towards the firewall. Mine is black plastic dipstick handle that can be pulled out.

Wouldn't that be the transmission oil dipstick? I though 550i didn't have a dipstick

@@Randomishh There is a dip stick on the 545/550i. The 6 cylinder ones do not have one. The trans has 2 drain plugs and no dip stick. you fill the trans until fluid starts to weep out the top hole.

56 inches long and 10 inches high. They are the one piece version
