You will need good headphones or speakers with deep bass to hear the vibration. Phone, tablet and laptop speakers won't pick it up. The noise is an uncomfortable deep bass-y booming sound

Not yet, I will replace my prop shaft support bearing soon and report back if it fixes it.

i have the same issue the booming noise from between 1000rpm-2000rpm at low speed , mine doesnt vibrate but the noise coming from the end of the engine bay to centre console. i can hear the booming sounds when i accelerate. have you fixed this problem yet ? mine's b47 520d

I haven't fixed it yet. My most recent job was a new prop shaft centre support bearing and flex disc and this did not solve the issue but maybe improved it 5%. Every job that I've done which results in smoother running has improved the problem, but none have got to the root cause. The source of mine seems to be the rear of the car but its hard to isolate such an overbearing sound

Not yet, and I've tried a lot of things! To keep track there is a thread on bimmerforum if you want to see what I've tried: www.bimmerforums.co.uk/threads/2005-e61-520d-deep-bass-vibrations-from-rear-at-1400rpm-video-in-thread.592021/page-2#post-3406128

Hi! Did you solve the problem? I have a different car, but problem feels the same. You can listen to my car: kzbin.infoqL-P7GXdsGE?si=W6C5IMxrvZis-87b I've watched maybe a hundred of videos like "bmw 520d pov" and I can tell you that almost 70-80% of used 2.0 liter diesel bmw's have a vibration near 1000rpm. In some cases you can barely hear it, in our case you can hear it clearly. My thoughts its exhaust resonanse. I'll start full diagnostics of a car in April, maybe I'll find a cause or solution.

Hello, I never found a single cause that made it go away, but it has reduced significantly. When I got the car, it would do it in every gear apart from 1st, below 1500RPM. Now, it does it in 3rd below 1200RPM under heavy load, and 4th 5th and 6th below 1500 RPM with moderate load. The way it is now is acceptable in that if it does it, I am really in the wrong gear. The things that have helped to improve it have been any job that improves smoothness of the engine/transmission and any job that stops parts from vibrating. Most effective was really carefully adjusting the boot/tailgate bump stops, and when I say carefully, I mean I removed all plastic trim around them so that i could physically see the bump stops making contact as I closed the boot. I also installed adhesive butyl rubber sound deadening mats throughout the rear of the car behind the carpets and trim but this only had a minor effect. Things like new exhaust hangers, new engine mounts, new dual mass flywheel, new crank pulley etc. have all been done as parts wore out, and have all contributed a couple % towards the improvement owed to them helping to damp vibrations. Tesla Model Y and some Skodas are known for this issue too.

Also, a key learning point for me was that when I drove with the boot open, the problem completely went away! This is what led to the careful bump stop adjustment that I mentioned in my previous reply. I also replaced the rubber seal/weatherstrip on my boot and this made maybe a 3-5% difference

@@nickb7369 It's my first diesel car, so I thought that all of them louder and create more vibrations than gasoline cars. But I had a possibility to compare my car with X1 and 420d with the same N47 engine, and they both didn't have such hard bassy vibrations as my car, and were quieter indeed. Thanks for such a detailed response. I'm starting to think that all 2.0L diesel bmw's can cause a lot of headache with vibrations and noises of all kinds. Someone gets rid of vibrations with simple engine mounts replacement, and others change half of a car and end up getting rid of a car.
