@@MTechGuy Indeed I find most of your videos useful. Although I have a 1er, your videos on other models show the basis on how most BMWs can be stripped and repaired without the fear of messing it up or the cost of going to a 'specialist'. This is the tool I've been using for years ! I bought it for my old E90 325i and I've been using it for 6 years now. Now I use it for my e64 M6 and my E60 535xi . Weirdly it as less option I can use for my E60 then my E64. But still helps with engine codes and air bag lights at least.

I was wondering if you have any idea of a scan tool that will work with the Z4 E85? I have been unable to find anything that indicates what scanner will do the SMG hydraulic fluid depressurize function or transmission oil flush. Asking vendors like Foxwell is like asking my wife, they seem to have no clue about the specific capabilities of their devices. Thanks for your help.
@MTechGuy2 ай бұрын
Like asking the wife 🤣 I used the Schwaben scan tool for my SMG fluid change, which is basically a rebranded Foxwell tool- kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXTVgouXa6iNkK8 I pretty much just bought it then worked through what it would actually do for the M5 (which was a lot, SMG depressurise, SMG clutch position adaptions/calibration, VANOS bleed etc) Like you say, the info out there wasn’t great/complete. It’s been a really good useful scan tool, for the price it’s worth buying anyhow, if this doesn’t do the SMG depressurising on your Z4, then you’ll be looking at a laptop with ISTA

how do you find running an E60 M5 in New Zealand compared to UK, in terms of cost-of-ownership and driving enjoyment? I think fuel, insurance and 'road tax' is cheaper... but parts prices, parts availability, tyre costs would be worse. And then driving enjoyment is less so in NZ because it's a nanny state with low speed limits and they go medieval with their radars if you're doing just 40kmh/25mph over the speed limit. In UK you can cruise at 90mph on motorways and nobody cares, where as in NZ they'd ban you and impound your car... tough one. Plus in the UK you have easy access to Wales, Isle of Man (no speed limits) and Germany (hello autobahns).
@MTechGuy2 жыл бұрын
Running cost are less, but parts more expensive. More unobstructed roads, and mountain roads, less real motorways. Not as many speed cameras. Less cities, far less roads overall.

How can I read the OBD readiness flag from the ECU? I need that for emission test and want to know every flag is set correctly. Thanks for information.
@MTechGuy Жыл бұрын
When the codes have been cleared the system will be ‘not ready’ until a drive cycle has been completed (I don’t know how long is required) We don’t currently have emissions testing here in NZ
@AbcAbc-ox6pg Жыл бұрын
@@MTechGuy Yes I cleared codes, had a drive cycle and now I want to check the readiness before I have emission test. So I want to read readiness code before I go to the test, I don't know if all flags are set and the car is ready for test

Hello, my name is Fernando from Portugal. I would like to ask you a question based on your experience and knowledge about the m5. I have a m5 e60 from 2006 that I bought in 2015. Since then some issues appeared and I iam been able to solve them thought the office I work with. Throttle actuators, gas pomp and all its sensors, rod bearings, and other small things. How ever in 2020 the car stopped due to a gear box malfunction, I couldn’t shift the gears and the car was able to be driven by itself till it stopped without been able to shifted down or to put it in neutral. We thought it was the battery, and at that time we change the gear box oil and filter. Last year in February we changed the gas accumulator. And in juin last year it happened again the car stopped. Back to the office shop by truck and we change the relays. Everything seems to be good till yesterday that happened again 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️. Information on the desk board “ gear malfunction “ or something. Do you know what could be the cause of this malfunction bearing in mind all the replacements that we have made? By the way next week I am going to change the vamos solenoids because they have almost 16 years 😁😁😁. Thank you for your attention and I appreciate your answer.
@Uathankicks2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the solenoid Orings can go bad and cause the solenoids and TCU to start malfunctioning. I would recommend M5 board there are many people knowledgeable about the SMG. You need BMW scan software for the codes.

Good you’ve already replaced the relays. Check the hydraulic fluid level, scan for specific SMG codes and go from there. Check out one of my previous videos for likely causes- studio.kzbin.info4NCb8op_7i0/edit
